Do not understand above post. It says OV is longest-tenured DC athlete and right after that lists two guys with 20 and 21 seasons?

I think they mean OV is longest tenured active DC athlete, with only two others in history exceeding it.

No one's denying that Bossy is a great goalscorer. You're not really engaging with what I'm saying.

Bossy is a great scorer in the same way Stamkos and Iginla are great goal scorers. But not in the same way Gretzky, Ovechkin and Lemieux are great goal scorers.

It's that simple.
not according to Gretzky

I love when people manipulate charts to exaggerate differences by not setting the graph's floor to 0:

LOOK HOW DIFFERENT IT WAS!

This is one of the first things I teach about in my data visualization courses.

I also quibble with the fact that the TSN author spends a reasonable amount of time talking about why it's important to consider context, then glosses over entirely how these specific adjustments were made to the conclusion that THESE ARE THE ADJUSTED RESULTS AND WERE HANDED DOWN ON STONE TABLETS.

If you don't discuss the methodology, I guess people can't criticize it.

The value of adjustments is also important to discuss - and it depends on what your point is, or "what your goal" is if I wanted to engage in shitty wordplay.

If you want to argue that goals were worth less (on average) in Gretzky's era, sure. I don't know many people (among those educated enough on the topic) who disagree with that. And yet, Gretzky has scored more actual goals than Ovechkin. And yes, nearly every record of any type in any sport is set in favorable conditions.

Off topic, but I was recently looking at an investor presentation for a public-traded company. The PDF was full of slides like this - where the company's performance, for a bunch of financial metrics, was slightly better than their peer group. But the graphs were scaled in such a way that it looked like they had by far the better results.

I chose not to invest. It told me that either the company was run by people who didn't understand basic data analysis, or more problematically, they understood it and were actively trying to deceive current/prospective investors. Either way, there are plenty of other options to choose from.

100% on board with this - at this point, if you're displaying stuff to investors you know what you're doing.

I've been in the room on shareholder presentations regarding vendor ROI claims, and I've simultaneously wanted to walk out immediately and stick around to ask questions.

Now the season can start.

He has another milestone with that goal
More goals scored on Tuesdays : 146th (2nd Trottier 145)

+

He played his first game against Woll. So he is the 170th GK to concede a goal from Ovi.
Jagr scored against 178 goalies
Marleau against 177
Ovi is 3rd.
