Unpopular opinion but have a feeling Caps current existence relies only on providing Alex decent roster so the record can be broken, everything else is irrelevant for the next 3 years...
And then they will have more to show for it than all but 3 teams over the next 3 years... possibly more than all but one team if the same team wins the next 3 cups

This is a weird time to have that opinion. We’re less than a month removed from the Caps selling half the roster to stock draft picks. Carlson and Backstrom missed half the season. Ovi is the only reason the Caps aren’t 1OA hunting.

I think it was back in 2011 when some sports writer said that Ovechkin and the Caps would both be better off, if OV just goes back to KHL.
It was 2014. May 29 is “Adam Proteau Day” for all those who celebrate.

Ovie was at 422 career goals when that nonsense was written.

Ovi is still a consistent 50 goals scoring machine, he scored

52 in last 82,
102 in last 164,
155 in last 246,
205 In last 328,
254 in last 410,
...
501 in last 820 games

Things beyond his control like war, injuries, family tragedy, league scoring levels, age, coaches , linemates, etc do not affect his 50-goal scoring pace.

Ovechkin scored his 750th goal on December 4, 2021.

He scored 30 goals in 52 games and 42 goals in 68 games for a total of 72 goals in 120 games (0.6 goals per game, a 49.2 goal per 82 game pace) since that date.

He is 72 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's career total.

This kind of anti-Russian bigotry really came full force in 2014.

This guy and another notorious one Michael Russo among the biggest haters around.

Pretty cool that that is also his career pace for GPG. His pace in his late 30s is where he has been at throughout his entire career as well. No signs of slowing down and extremely consistent. Every year it seems has been between .55 and .64 GPG/

It's because anything anti-Russian sells. Putin is the readymade bad guy for everything. Just look at Chicago and Minnesota using Russia as the excuse for not doing the Pride jersey thing......who cares if its not truthful.

Kaprizov should publicly tell Russo to go pound sand. Ovechkin/the Caps did as such to Malamud, and rightfully so. The Caps showed there's no tolerance in and around the organization for such things.:highclap:

Yep, kind of an interesting arc. Came in a young guy in a high-scoring, powerplay heavy era. Hit his "prime" in a very low scoring era to maintain his pace (while winning 7 rockets in 8 seasons), and then his "decline" has coincided with an uptick in league scoring to keep him at a similar pace even as he's dipped in the Rocket race.

Not true at all. He has told ownership he wants to be competitive for one more Cup chance and their moves at the deadline show they aren't going to needlessly throw away future opportunity for a few meaningless wins here and there. Brian MacLellan played it correctly this year - they missed the most games to injury in the NHL and trading away picks would have been pointless.

A few years ago somebody showed where it was about 33 percent of them or so.

Way less. Through 644 goals, only 92 were PP one timers from the left dot, under 15%.
