Why is tonight’s game on NHL network? Most people don’t even get that channel. How does TNT, ESPN, or even ESPN2 not pick this game up? Terrible look for the league.

It doesn't. It's not about the record itself, it's about glorifying the player/person. Breaking the record is cool, and a hell of an achievement. One has to wonder how if there had not been the lockouts/COVID, had he broken it like 3 years ago already.

What about ESPN2? TNT? Complete embarrassment that this game is locked behind ESPN+ and NHL Network.

I’m assuming ESPN2 and ESPNU are airing an alt cast like they do for the men’s final four, CFP, etc.

No doubt they’ve sold tons of ads specific to that event so switching to the Caps/Blackhawks last minute is likely a nonstarter. Can’t speak to TNT but I’m guessing they have NBA tonight?

In any event, it’s pretty unlikely that Ovi breaks the record tonight given he has 1 hat trick in the last ~3 years, so perhaps that plays into their calculus

I have heard quoted Gretzky having 61 NHL records for the longest time. Would this have been be one of those (not sure which ones the NHL considers the "official" ones) ? Crosby just broke another with his 20th ppg+ season. How many does Gretzky have left?

But, in all seriousness, we are watching one of the most incredible, historic seasons in sports history. I thought he was going to limp across the finish line after last year but you can see that OV is truly on a mission. To pull this off at his age is almost unthinkable.
