TSN has an article today saying Ovi has one more chance, against CHI, to break Gretzky's record in less games played. The next game they will have played the same number of NHL games.

I'm wondering why they're acting like he needs to break the record in less games? If he breaks it in the same number of games played, is there going to be an asterisk somehow?

If scoring across the NHL wasn't significantly higher during Gretzky's prime, it might matter.

It's an interesting factoid?

How close the number of total games it is, considering how many seasons they played?

Add to that the half season in 2013 and the shortened seasons for the plandemic
