So...

Who's the lucky team that the Caps play when Ovi breaks the record?

Would be crazy if he does it in the last game vs Crosby.

Just in a brief moment my gut said Islanders.

I don't know why, but that would make a lot of sense to me. Way more likely to come on the second meeting than the first but for some reason I just see it

You know who they should bring out for the inevitable Gretzky-congratulates-Ovechkin center-ice ceremony? Mike Knuble.

Knuble, I think, is the only NHL player in history to have scored NHL goals assisted by both Wayne Gretzky (x4) and Alex Ovechkin (x24). He might also be the only player to have been an NHL teammate of both of them, but I'm not sure.

If one is top three or tied, I think that designates an elite goal scorer. Ovechkin at age 39, and with 39 goals is an elite goal scorer (tied with Tage Thompson).

Thanks for sharing. Thats actually pretty cool. Totally forgot about him.

Mike Knuble congratulates Ovechkin for his record breaking goal in an ingame ceremony on Pens home ice. Just imagine.

How much is cheap? I would think the secondary market for these games would be thru the roof.

Get-in-the-door prices for remaining games, two tickets on Stubhub:

Home vs Blackhawks - $116
Road @ Islanders - $127
Home vs Hurricanes - $212
Road @ Blue Jackets - $117
Home vs Blue Jackets - $193
Road @ Islanders - $61
Road @ Penguins - $125

These are actually a lot lower than I expected. Granted it’s not a guarantee that you get THE game, but this the kind of opportunity that comes along maybe once in a generation or two (we already know it won’t happen again in the next 20 years or so)

Why is tonight’s game on NHL network? Most people don’t even get that channel. How does TNT, ESPN, or even ESPN2 not pick this game up? Terrible look for the league.

And we all know that if it was a major, once thought to be unbreakable NBA record that had a chance of falling, ESPN would pick up the game no questions asked.

Prices for 2 tickets or each? If for 2 tickets, that's crazy low, if each, seems like mostly normal pricing, not high demand tickets.

Per ticket.

With the exception of the Carolina and CBJ games, that seems like roughly “late playoffs” type prices. So not low, but definitely lower than I’d have expected under these circumstances. Basically what you’d pay for a decent concert.

I think once he gets within a goal, they will definitely go up

I’m sure it will spike then, but that’s pretty risky from a ticket buying standpoint. If you’re in any of those markets you should be buying tickets right now, because he could easily score a couple against Chicago tonight.

TSN has an article today saying Ovi has one more chance, against CHI, to break Gretzky's record in less games played. The next game they will have played the same number of NHL games.

I'm wondering why they're acting like he needs to break the record in less games? If he breaks it in the same number of games played, is there going to be an asterisk somehow?:skeptic:

Earlier this week I threw a fit about the Ovi game tonight being on NHL Network, and evidently ESPN+ will still carry it. This is what needs to happen with all games. The fact that NHL Network is airing a game should NOT black out the game to everyone else and the idea that they get to dictate what games they show and what games out of market people can't watch is crazy. Now if NHL Network was more avaliable then so be it, but that network holds the NHL back and no one seems to care. Not only that but if you watch that network, it just looks so dumb, with commercials for obscure companies (My favorite is still that bee company for whatever reason) that no one will ever use and you would see if you were watching Daytime shows like The Price is Right in the 90s or early 2000s. Not only that, but the hosts are not very good and it's just a bad network. I shouldn't have to pay an extra $80 to $100 a month for games that I should be getting with an actual out of market subscription. Everyone seems to be addressing the blackout issues, but the NHL keeps insisting that this obscure network gets to select games at will and controls what is available and what isn't.
