Trust me, Ovi is going to do enough celebrating all on his own.

I still cringe when I think of his reaction to winning the Cup. It was so, idk, contrived? Over the top? Like he knew every camera in the arena was locked on him and he was going to deliver, repeatedly. Over and over.

Like he was trying desperately to capture that perfect moment that would turn into a legendary meme template on giphy.com. So yeah, I expect that x 10 when he breaks 99's record.

(And don't get me wrong, I'm not an Ovi hater and I love that he has such a genuine love & passion for the game. Maybe that's why his Cup-winning reaction was so sad, it was just not genuine? Or, you can look at my avatar and conclude that I'm just bitter because my team hasn't won anything since The Beatles were playing in every teenager's bedroom.)
Honestly, I’ve never seen this kind of view before - that Ovi’s Cup lift was contrived. Of course, everyone’s entitled to one’s opinion. But I see his Cup lift as a mixture of extreme happiness and … relief. He let it all out during his celebration. And deservedly so. I simply can’t find a way to see this differently.

P.S. His notorious “stick on fire” celebration, on the other hand, was definitely contrived. Maybe that’s why it didn’t go as planned because it was way over the top for the hockey culture.

This is a scalding hot take lol. Ovi spent his entire career with elite teams that fell short and he was much maligned by the media that loved to blame him for it.

He won the ultimate achievement at long last playing a key role, it’s absurd to say that his reaction was contrived.

Imagine he scores to goal and he yeets the stick 10 rows up…. Only to be called back after a 15 minute offside review

Jokes aside, I was thinking about it, what if he scores, they start the celebration ceremony only for the opposing team to issue a coach challenge that takes the goal back

He is a bit of a one trick pony in recent years. Sadly this is how many younger fans will remember him, or use against him to negate his accomplishments even though he's still an elite goalscorer.
It's one of the pitfalls of playing for 20 years.

But for the majority of his career he was a multi-faceted offensive machine.

He's top 5 in the NHL this season in points/60. Not goals, points.
