9 less games he didn't contribute anything to his team am I right folks?
That argument doesn’t hold much weight when we are comparing players with essentially the EXACT same stat-line other than GP.

It’s not a situation of Ovechkin having less points and/or goals, but having better per game numbers, it’s him having equal production (other than a single goal) in 10 less GP.

Crosby and ov should have been 1 and 2. Ever since that day I've despised the goals everything narrative because it is BS

For those of us who actually watch him play, it's pretty obvious he was playing through significant injuries.

The haters prefer players who quit or sit out under those circumstances. To each his own.

Ironically Ovechkin is missing form tonight's game.

Do you have any words of advice given your comments here?

I honestly was going to ignore this post as your reference injured players as quitters or sitting out is.... well I won't finish the sentence it's pretty obvious what it is.

You are in complete denial: Durability is a virtue in all professional sports.

Emphasizing worst seasons for durable players while completely excusing zero production from injured players (Crosby) and quitters (Lemieux) means you hold quitters in higher regard than you hold players who persevere, and you hold injury prone players in higher regard than durable players.

Your opinion is divorced from reality because even in a down year Ovie provides more value to his team than 99% of the league.

Not really ironic since catching COVID and being forced to sit out is not at all the same as getting an injury from playing hockey.

Do you understand how delusional you look calling Lemieux a quitter? Like it’s ridiculous.

Lemieux had that reputation even before he quit.

He flat out quit though, I don't know why you think you can spin that. He came back at his leisure - half way through a season. He could have easily come back earlier - had he not been a quitter. But he was an entitled quitter and wasn't going to be a team player and go to training camp and all that.

Even today he acts like a poor sport. He's the only player who refused to congratulate Ovie after Ovie passed him in all time goals. It's a stark contrast with Gretzky - who is the first to congratulate other players.

Do you have a phobia of Penguins in real life? Or just the ones that play hockey?

Hull
Andreychuk
Dionne
Esposito
Gartner
Messier
Yzerman
Selanne
Robitaille

^^^All these guys showed class and congratulated Ovie as he surpassed them. Jagr will, and already has really. Gordie Howe certainly would have - as he did with Gretzky - but he has passed away. Gretzky certainly would congratulate Ovie too.

Lemieux is the only one who refused.

How else is there to interpret this other than Lemieux being the singular poor sport among them?

That's exactly my point, what was ironic was the quote and poster I was quoting who somehow thinks that when guys are injured that it's a character flaw or something ridiculous like that.

Calling a guy who is injured a quitter is really insulting to everyone's intelligence here and it's a really bad look.

You made a blanket statement about guys being injured that was the original quote, nice moving of the goalposts once again no wonder your POV doesn't sway anyone.

Well that's the difference between us - I think durability and perseverance are virtues in all professional sports, whereas you think being a quitter is a non-factor.

9 goals in his last 22 games, a little slow for someone like Ovechkin but still puts him at a 33 goal pace. While impressive, not enough.

Hope he can string together a couple more 40 goal seasons following this year but I'm doubtful.

Aren’t half of those empty nets too? That’s a little concerning as I really want him to break the record.

So you want to double down on a horrible take eh?

Equating injuries with quitting give your head a shake dude.

Durability is a good trait but do you know what is better?

Being consistently elite.

Have to admit that when this watch started I didn’t think much of it.
I’m paying attention now.

With today's assist, Ovechkin moves past Zubov into sole possession of #3 all-time in career assists among Russian NHLers.

Is he slowing down during this season? I know looking at the numbers you would say no, but after a blistering October and November he's had 5 in December and January. While nothing to sneeze at, it's not Ovechkin like.

After typing this he'll probably do 10 in 10.

I think if we look at the numbers it would be absolutely yes:

First 23 games
19G-18A-37pts, 68 goals 131 pts pace

Last 23 games:
10G-11A-21PTS, 36 goals, 75 pts pace

For people that watch him I imagine it could feel differently and be clearly the product of an unsustainable nearly 20% shooting percentage part of a season versus an unlucky 8.7% phase without much slowing down, I do not know, but it was almost certain to happen is save percentage and is team shooting percentage when it was on the ice would have been completely out norm over a full season.
