Now 58 goals away from tying the record.

8 goals in his first 43 games.

6 goals in his last 6 games.
I have a feeling that he will get * in *. I'm not going to say it because I don't want to jinx him, but I think some ppl might know what numbers I might be thinking of(there 2 of them, but it may not happen but it would have some irony if either scenario happened).

Looked like he was never gonna pass 10 goals this season, now I can see him flirting with 30 by the end of the season.

The Gretzky record is likely set in stone if he reaches 30 goals this season.

Do you mean you think the Gretzky record is set in stone if OV doesn't get 16 more goals to end with 30 for the season? If OV finishes with 30 goals this season, he will be 42 back to tie Gretzky. After this season, OV still has 2 years left on his contract. He would then only need 21 per season to tie.

How many Ovechkin score in 3on3 or 4on4 overtime though? I imagine it's significant number. Gretzky never had that advantage.
To be fair, Gretzky also played many years in an era before the butterfly goalie and teams put up football scores every night.

Yes, this sounds pretty much set in stone to me

OV intends to finish out his contract. If he is in reach within 10 goals of Gretzky after his contract extension comes to an end(him reaching age 40), I bet ya OV signs a special 1 year deal to try to match Gretzky/or surpass him by one more goal and then retires when ever he reaches 895(I would love to see him retire with 899!).
