Cap question guys..........concerning the Leafs. Chris Johnstone says they are working on a deal for Taveres that is like the McCabe deal with deferred money?? How does deferred money count towards the cap??
Are the Leafs the only team to use this loophole?

Carolina signed Jarvis to a deferred contract in the offseason.

It's just the way the contracts are calculated. The AAV is the average of the length of the contract, if a signing bonus is deferred it doesn't count on the numbers used to calculate the AAV.

There is probably a limit to how much can be deferred. And some teams might not want to owe a few millions to someone in 10 years.

Sadly Bettman sees Canada as an after thought
Something like 40% of the revenue comes from 7 teams............crazy eh.
The setting of times of games, always is about the individual markets, and not the other fans it would appear. Something that Cdn teams, and teams out west always have to deal with.

If the NHL are adamant about US matinee games then perhaps they should have the US teams playing each other and the Canadian teams playing in Canada in the evening....I initially thought the matinee games were US teams playing each other...I was wrong.

I remember weekday games starting as early as 930am local time. Like when the Canucks would go on the road and play someone like the Bruins on a US holiday. People on the west coast are just starting their workday.

Also, they should distribute the games more evenly instead of having 8 games with a start time at 3:00pm or 3:30pm Eastern time. Especially now that there is a Black Friday NFL game on at 3pm ET so they can get more viewers throughout the day. Have different start times from 1pm ET to 5pm ET.

Philly all over the NYR 2-0 less than 5 minutes in
Looking at the Edge simulation of the goals. Oofff. Feels like the Rangers watched video tapes of the Habs defense early season with a D always being too high.
