Steven Stamkos (8.5M x 4yrs cap hit - 5.375M real salary)
Erik Cernak (RFA)
- TB gets 2 ELC years of an ‘’A’’ level, NHL-ready, expansion draft exempt prospect in Brännström.
- TB also swings for the fences with Brown, a 6ft6 playmaking center that has dominated the AHL and is knocking on the door of the NHL.
- The (projected) early 2nd round picks add value while TB offloads roughly 12M in salary cap without taking an NHL contract in return.
- Ottawa gets a proven, though aging and injured, superstar to insulate Stuetzle down the middle. With White, Norris, Pinto and Greig as other top 6 center options, they can swallow the loss of Brown.
- Ottawa also gets a big defensive defenseman to plug into their top 4 alongside Chabot or Sanderson.

Jacob Trouba (8M x 6yrs cap hit - 6M real salary)
- NYR gets a Trouba-lite project on the blueline in Thomson. Big shot, physical, sometimes questionable IQ.
- Anisimov and Gudbranson are 1 year rentals that provide depth scoring and physicality. Once their contracts expire, NYR if free to allocate Trouba’s original 8M cap hit to Zibanejad, Kakko and (later) Lafrenière’s extensions.
- Ottawa once again weaponizes their cap space to provide a ‘’jail free’’ card to New York and acquire a top 4D.
- At 8M, Trouba is grossly overpaid. His 6M real dollars salary make him somewhat attractive to the Sens.
- Gorton and Dorion talk him into joining an up and coming team, 1 hour flight away from NY, where he’ll get the minutes without the pressure of being a #1.

To
Bryan Little (5.295M x 4yrs - for LTIR purposes)
- The Jets strengthen their center core by adding Tierney as the 3C this season and 2C once Stastny is gone (back to 3C when Perfetti’s ready).
- Zaitsev helps on a thin blueline as a defensively responsible #4/5. At 3.5M, his salary is about on par with his play.
- The return for Ottawa in this trade is the ability to LTIR Little’s contract.
- The uninsured portion of Little’s salary (5.295M x 20%) + 1M retention on Zaitsev amount to a hair over 2M.
