I don’t want to get too much into this but I do need to correct one of your assumptions. First, Jeff Hunt was nothing but supportive from day one. He made some offers to support the Booster Club and informed them they no longer needed to support the players because everything they need will be taken care of in a professional way. The goal would be to support the team by assisting in building the fan base and support for the team in general. Dick and Steph exited prior to the Jeff Hunt season.

The “issue” was Earl. The Booster Club ran the 50-50 with proceeds going to assist player education. The focus would be on assisting players in need. Help with books and such, especially the players without the full scholarship packages. When the season was over, Earl politely asked for the 50-50 money so he could use it to pay the scholarships. That wasn’t the deal. The team has the responsibility to pay the scholarships. But, when Dick said NO WAY, Earl threatened to sue them personally as well as the Booster Club. So, Dick handed the money over and that was the start of the end for them.

I need to be very clear, Jeff Hunt was nothing but supportive. It is important that is stated on my end. Earl was a piece of shit. It is important I am clear on that too.
Thanks I never got the whole story

I appreciate the clarification.

Looks like Mackenzie is injured again, have to wait for word on how bad it is. Had a hard time skating to the bench.

An absolute joke of a call. Sennecke barely touched the goaltender and even that is irrelevant. He was sliding into the corner and was never going to nake the save.
Look Oshawa was the slightly better team tonight and deserved the win. But if you think that was not goalie interference I want what you're smoking. You cannot push the goalie in the blue paint...simple as that.

OMG there is your local kid

Can someone explain to me the fixation in Ottawa with 5'9" players?

Amidovski may be a centre, maybe not. We will have to see. He is listed as a centre but he may end up as a winger. So, they needed a centre and to be honest, there really weren’t many bigger kids in the top of this draft. A lot of smaller kids. Apparently this kid has super wheels and a great playmaker. He’s probably not a “next season” player so hopefully he grows a bit and fills out.

You need to look at the shots I think to see the difference we got utshot in the 2nd and 3rd period.

The smythe Mayer experiment was a -3

That says it all.

This team knows that MacK is fragile you have to wonder why he was not protected enough.

Not a “bad” game tonight. A bit of an unfortunate 4th goal to be honest.

Ottawa managed to get to the inside in the offensive zone so they can penetrate. But, they allowed Oshawa to control the tempo more than I’d like. That could be Oshawa forcing the tempo and we couldn’t do anything about it but since Ottawa had many periods of control, I am not sure that was the case.

I figured there would be a lot of one goal games in this series but I thought the scoring would be less and the defence tighter. If the game opens up a bit like tonight, I think Ottawa has a better chance of winning the series IF IF IF MacKenzie isn’t hurt. If we open up the game a bit and Michelone is in net, I think it is over very quick.

I have no idea what the hell Mews was doing all night flipping the puck to the centre in front of the goalie all game. Totally reckless play by him in the D-Zone tonight.

We can only hope. But an RD that size tells me that he is going to grow or end up like Uens in Kingston, and that is not a good thing.

He is more of a Ty Nelson type player. He will need to gain weight and maybe 2 inches. If he can put on 15 pounds over the next year and come in at 175 as a 17 year old and grow from there, he will be fine. He’ll need a bigger veteran LHD with him in the beginning. If he lines up beside Dietsch on the 3rd pairing next year, they’ll probably be fine in a rebuild year.

Sirman/Mayich - Mews
Marrelli - Brady
Dietsch - Alphabet

Overall, I am not unhappy with the draft today. Eshkawkogan may have been a little bit off the board as the #21 pick but some had him as a solid sleeper to sneak into the 1st round so it isn’t a shocker. Clearly they want to maintain a puck possession game with speed.

They did manage to get a bigger kid in Amidovski which is good. I anticipated he would go earlier.

I really thought they would draft Crete with the #21st pick but it looks like they really wanted a puck moving D-Man. That was the only pick they had that made sense to get that so I cannot fault that.

Perrier with the 52nd seems fine. His Scouting report is really good. Kris Leblanc gives him very high praise. Extremely speedy with the puck and soft hands. Good wrister. Solid vision and playmaker. Plays the game with high pace and can do it with the puck. He won’t likely be ready this year, especially with some of the depth returning but it may be exciting to see him as a 17 year old rookie.

Mews had several brutal giveaways in his own zone, starting with two in one shift in the 1st period. Not sure if he just had an off night or if he was hearing footsteps.

In terms of being a draft prospect, I have major reservations about Mews’ size and lack of physicality as well as his overall defensive play. He’s better defensively than Zayne Parekh, but that’s not saying much.

Mews wasn’t the only Ottawa player who struggled with giveaways though. I was shocked at how poorly they played defensively.

The other surprising struggle from Ottawa was on their power play breakouts. Oshawa positioned a forechecker between the rushing defenceman and the two trailing players waiting for a drop pass back. When the Ottawa player stopped and turned to pass the puck backwards and saw the Oshawa penalty killer, he just froze and had no idea what to do with the puck. This happened a few times including with Mews, who should have enough offensive ability to read and react way quicker than that.

Oshawa was certainly the better team tonight and fully deserved the victory.

If Mack is injured and it is the groin, I wonder if Boyd looks to the Euro draft to pick up a goalie and then trades MACK or if MacK realizes that he is done and takes a year off.

When they didn’t replace him with the backup - - especially when it was obvious they knew he’d be skating to the bench ASAP for an extra attacker, I figured it couldn’t be that serious of an injury.

But a pulled muscle can really tighten up and become noticeable after cooling down.

Physicality isn’t Mews game. I’m sure at the next level it will need to be developed but at this level, you don’t need to be physical when you are a puck mover.

With respect tot he turnovers, it was so weird, I was starting to think that was a game plan. It was almost like they knew Oshawa wouldn’t be in front of the net in certain situations so the puck got flipped there and most of the time, Ottawa skated it out BUT I said to my wife that all it take sis one fumble on that play and it is a turnover in a tremendously bad spot. Sure enough…. MacK injured.

The defence will be settled down when Mayich is back. He’s the big body defence first guy back there. It is much harder to gain position when he is net front.

We’ll need to see game two before we can get a true feel for the series. I said it would be a bunch of one goal games and sure enough, game one was a one goal game. I think this is what we should expect one way or the other.

Can they not play Mews more with Mayer? It can't be worse than Smyth

The challenge is going to be playing their game and dictating to Oshawa insead of Oshawa playing their style.

I am not sure they have the ability.

Listen, I am still baffled as to why a 3rd round NHL pick (Gardiner) is wallowing on the 4th line. 6’1” 190 and can skate agaisnt a bigger Oshawa team, yet he plays in a diminished role. Dumb. Meanwhile, a 5’10” 160 pound 17 year old with 1 assist and a -4 in four playoff games (10 career goals) is skating on the first line with Kressler and Foster. I can’t figure much out with Cameron’s logic at the best of times. Now you ask me about Mews with Mayer? Pft. I don’t know if that is the right pairing BUT, Mayer should be out there 30 minutes per game. I don’t care who he plays with. Start with 30 minutes and go from there.
