Give him the best line in the NFL, and I bet he still holds the ball for too long.
Maybe but they really need a better offense with at least some designed quick passes. Everything is slow developing and that makes no sense if they really were going to run West Coast Offense. We will see what they bring in but it has to be better than whatever this offense was this year. Even worse has been how everyone calling plays refused to adjust to the crap line. I think if opposing coordinators wanted to destroy the Broncos they could just go blitz every play and it would get home half the time because the fired coach and his cronies are idiots.

I know I'm in a minority but I continue to believe this is a playoff team next year provided they figure out how to keep the players somewhat healthy. All the close losses despite the injuries make the improvement not that difficult. Just scrap this messy offense and learn from the mistakes and close losses turn into close wins with a competent staff.

I doubt the defense is this good again next season, and I'm not counting on Russell Wilson actually improving at this stage in his career. I think the Broncos are doomed with him at the helm.
Agreed. Russ looks cooked, no pun intended.

I know the line sucks in front of him. But that doesn't excuse the inability to make accurate throws when you do have time, or misreading every other play, or not having the ability to go through simple progressions or not being able to identify simple blitz packages.

Russ is just plain bad at this point. Not sure it's get a better line and coach and everything will be great type scenario.

I'm fully convinced he was the main problem this year, not Hackett.

I’m with ya’ll on Russ. Elite QBs prop their team up to at least .500. They make people around them better. They do these things in spite of coaching. I’m not seeing any of that. Kinda tells me 2 things actually - 1) this dude has either completely pooped out or 2) he wasn’t a HOF/elite QB to begin with. Either way, we are kinda screwed.

All that being said, I really hope Harbaugh is coming in here. And I am actually becoming super hopeful that Rosburg and maybe even Evero are retained. Evero worked for Harbaugh in SF and Rosburg is the long time assistant of the other Harbaugh. There’s connections there that might allow for these guys to hang on.

I don't think he's ever been an elite QB. The Broncos didn't necessarily need an elite QB, they just needed much better than they had. This talk about him being paid like he's elite ignores the fact that he won't be in top 5 QB paid territory until 3 years from now and who knows there might be 5 or more QBs with a $55m cap hit that season. After that, the contract was designed to have a potential exit of about $30m and declining each year. In an ideal world, the Broncos have that time to find his successor and they can absorb that cap hit if the successor is on a rookie deal.

In the meantime please someone tell me who the Broncos had access to that would have done much better in this situation this year? And who could they have gotten next year that would have been better? No he's not elite but elite QBs are incredibly hard to get your hands on and even if you think you have drafted one they still need to be developed into one. Russ is more like Stafford. Stafford didn't go win the Rams the title by himself and has never been good enough to carry a bad team into top status. The rest of the very veteran and talented team he joined got them a title as his role was just to be better than Goff.

Justin Fields has fared much better than Russell Wilson with a lot less talent around him. Fields isn't elite by any means but he's on his way there.

They really missed the boat on Allen and Fields for sure, but then we're in that cycle of conversation again - would the Broncos have been able to develop either of them...which leads to the convo of 'we need a good coach' which leads to 'we need a new owner'........that owner domino has finally fallen and we have one drenched in dollars bills...so hopefully all of these other complaints finally start to get addressed.

I’m not sure Harbaugh can help Russ. He helped Alex Smith when he arrived and then onto Kap. Russ is an 11 year vet and stuck in his ways. Russ is too much big play or sack these pst couple of seasons. Doesn’t have the elusiveness to avoid sacks to make the big play so the sacks are increasing.

If he could play from the pocket then Seattle would have used him in the pocket more. But Russ isn’t a slider in the pocket like Brady/Rodgers/Brees. He likes to escape vs step up and not panic with people around him.

Harbaugh is a great HC if you are going short term of 3/4 years. He wears out his welcome fairly quickly with his personality.

The Russ he remembers coaching against is gone. It’s a different Russ now. He has to be realistic in what Russ can do now if he’s going to take this job.

Harbaugh...f***ing kill me now. I have despised that whiny little bitch since his playing days.

It is just one game but this interim coach seemed to at least know what the f*** he is doing lol

Made the move to switch the QB coach and OC so the latter could call plays and Kubiak was on the sideline with Russ. Seems to have worked somewhat. Also put Montrell Washington on ice.

But yes he seems to have grasped some of the basic fundamentals of coaching that eluded Hackett.

That’s actually what I like about this potential Harbaugh hire - I don’t think Jim will be averse to sayin “this ain’t workin” and bench Russ without any hesitation. I don’t know if Hackett really had the leash (or the personality) to do that in like week 3/4, but Jimbo will.

He was going to take the Vikings job last year if they had offered it so this isn't a surprise.

I'm not mad about it. Harbaugh knows how to coach teams to winning football games. He will maximize the talent he has on any roster. He in all likelihood wears out his welcome in Denver and is gone in 4 years tops, but I have no doubt the team will be competitive if he is HC.

I still pray we get Sean Payton and not Harbraugh. I really, REALLY don't like that guy. The way he carries himself is like a giant man child. But there's so much smoke it almost seems inevitable now.

Harbaugh will answer to Penner, who is a "real" businessman. Penner won't take any shit from Harbaugh, nor does he have to.

I think Harbaugh can get the team back on track the way Fox did, then you find a coach to carry them to victory.

Seems very plausible too. That quick turnaround of the Niners is not that dissimilar. In so many ways Singletary was a disaster and got nothing out of a team that had decent talent. Harbaugh comes in and they started executing on all fronts and became a top team without really changing the talent much.

I’ll have to eat a little crow if harbaugh comes to Denver. I have no clue why he’d want to leave Michigan.

Bizarre question would elway been a better baseball player as a yankee, would have have made more money career wise as a player then he did in football.

That's fine by me. The main thing here is to find out if Russ is fixable at all and the good thing is that Harbaugh won't let Russ walk over him.

Harbaugh is an NFL coach in demeanor and expectations. Really hard for him to coach college players and play the recruiting game but when your alma mater comes calling with big bucks you take it. But he's probably thinking its time to make this move back to the NFL. Otherwise he's gotta be thinking if I can't win a title or at least a playoff game with this team I have now I may never be able to.

Saints probably called and told them what the compensation would have to be and Penner/Paton hung up on them. Broncos need that first this year in the worst way, I'd just say no. If the comp was reasonable, say a couple of mid round picks, I'd agree Payton is a great choice. But since the Gruden "trade" of multiple firsts for a coach the market seems pretty set at a ridiculous level.
