What year are you guys in? Im going into my second year at Iona but I'm considering to transfer to either Baruch or even Bing. I'm in the business school at Iona now and I'm leaning towards majoring in finance. Have about a 3.2 gpa too

yeah I'm not really interested in accounting or marketing the slightest so I figure I go that direction. Probably going to minor in either Information Systems or Computer Science

That would be a good way to go. What are your feelings towards economics? As far as I know, of your required finance classes, some of the ones you are allowed to take are more economics type classes. I loved Econ and being able to take some economics courses as a part of my finance major really put it all together for me.

I remember back in my day when we had the original OT threads.

Im taking Macro this fall so I haven't been too exposed to it but as a broad topic it's interesting to me. Where do you attend btw?

Most of what you'll learn in Macro are fallacies.

I still struggle with whether or not it's better for people to learn the Keynesian tradition, which is false, or simply never take an econ course at all.

Ask the prof. if they could teach from an Austrian perspective and watch the steam come out of his ears.

Can't really argue with your point on Macro but your next point..

What makes you say this? (just want to note that I am not a fan of Keynesian at all)

School down in Georgia called Kenensaw State Univeristy. #3 Public University in the state. I received a fantastic education, paid about $18,000 total in tuition during my time (only had a scholarship for 1 year too) and was able to stay close to home.

Kennesaw also has the top nursing program in the country (they only accept 4.0+ students from high school and 3.8+ from an in college transfer for their nursing program).

For a small school, it kicks ass.

One of the best things is to come out of college without a huge debt over you're head. I'm getting a 17k scholarship at Iona and still have to pay around 15k so that's why I'm probably transferring.

The teacher I have is apparently a pushover but one of the few teachers that have you actually learn something so if I get bored I'll take your suggestion haha

Most people underestimate how important it is to find a teacher that will actually teach you something. They spend the first half of their major finding the easy teachers where they don't learn as much. During the second half, the amount of professors that you can pick from is usually a lot lower and therefore when they get stuck with a very demanding professor, they are ****ed. Ratemyprofessor was my best friend in college.

Yeah for my core classes where my only goal is to get an A I'll pick the easiest teacher. But for classes where I'm actually interested in and I need go learn, I'll go for the teacher to do so instead of getting the easy A. Unless the teacher is just crazy or something and makes the class more difficult than necessary

To really explain in a way that'd do it justice is way too political for hf.

On the subject of professors, you want the ones who could one day write you a pretty solid letter of rec. Knowledge and grades can be relatively important, but building connections can be really big if you're planning on entering grad school in your field.

I'm not saying kiss ass, but I'm not not saying it either.

Literally this. I needed a pre-req to get into my major, so I took the class at a local community college. The price was literally 1/3 of my college and got an A. Will never need that class again, so barely learned anything, but still got the A I needed haha.

Are you interested in more technical material or more business material?

I switched from Info Sys because I like the technical aspects more. Stevens just moved their Info Sys program into the business school, where before it was split between the business school and the science(?) school.

If you have any questions on either, shoot.
