Hey guys,

Going to the game tonight with one of my buddies and want to treat him to a nice dinner beforehand. Do any of you have any really good recommendations in the area? Ideally, it would be better if it was close to the arena.

Fleming's is good for a steak, but not cheap. They also have happy hour until 6, and the burger on the happy hour menu is delicious. Morton's also has a good happy hour which I think goes until 6:30. Avoid The Palm at all costs. The yardhouse, the farm, rock n' fish, and the like are are terribad as well.

I was trying to get a reservation at Fleming's but the earliest was after 6:30. Happy hour is tough at that place..it's like a turf war. Go there a lot for happy hour. Where is Morton's, exactly?

There's the 'Palm' restaurant, 1100 S Flower S, it's towards the high end in price but very good. The Yard House across the street in LA Live is fine for anything. If you want some incredible Chinese food, go to 'Yang Chow' in Chinatown. It's a couple of miles away, north of downtown, but very worth your time (try the slippery shrimp).

Their famous staple.

Also, try the "scallops and asparagus," it's off the menu, but believe it or not its even more tasty than their slippery shrimp.

Arashi Sushi is just down the street from Staples (11th st and Flower) and has a pretty good happy hour. $2 beer and sake with 2 pc sushi for $2.50.

Pete's Cafe in Downtown is a nice place. Not the quickest walk from Staples at around 1.5 mi, but you could take the metro from 7th / Spring to Pershing Sq. to cut down on some of it.

Yang chow is pretty good. I like Bottega Louie too. Although, it isn't uber fancy, Wokano is pretty good and has good happy hour prices if you sit by the bar. Rosa Mexicano at LA live has awesome pomegranate margaritas but their food is a little weird. Mortons is up between 7th and 8th on fig. I think all those steak places like Flemings and Nick and Stefs are overpriced but I'm not a steak guy. Roys would be my top selection for fine dining in the area. That is on 8th and fig.

Could always head to Cole's, french dip + martini's are always consistently good, unlike the Kings.

Orochan Ramen in little Tokyo is good

as someone else said Philipes near union station.

El Tepeyac in Boyle Heights of the 10 freeway is probably the best mexican food I have ever had.

None of these are fancy nor expensive. Good food none the less.

I love Yang Chow & Panini Cafe (I absolutely love their breakfasts before an afternoon game).
But neither is 'fancy'. You can try some of the suggestions above (Flemings, Yard House), there's also Roy's about 3 blocks away, on Figueroa.

Morton's is further up fig right next to the california pizza kitchen. Big awning, you go downstairs. It's a little further from the rink so it's not as crazy as Flemings. You should def. check it out sometime.
