Options in Goal moving forward?

That hire was for the AHL, and Hannu Toivenen the Marlies current goalie coach, had a decent pro career, which includes 3 years as an NHL backup. The Leafs current goalie coach is Steve Briere, a position he has held since the 15/16 season, his highest level of play was 2 games in the AHL, and was coaching before he joined the Leafs in the WSHL, and the NAHL. It is really mind blowing how someone's first high level pro job is for the richest team in the best league in the world. And I know you weren't disagreeing with me just clearing up who the actual coach is for the Leafs.

The best players don't necessarily make the best coaches. Also do you have any idea how good you need to be to make it to the AHL?

Or you just don't understand the goalie market. No goalie has returned anything close to Nylander since the cap was instituted.

Bo Horvat?

And that was for a worse goalie.

There have been plenty of trades, but the reason for what you're describing is because teams simply don't trade their elite goalies, they keep them to maintain their competitiveness.

MAF might be just as bad for us too. Just remember, every other NHL team carries Ontario born players that play WAY over their heads when playing our Leafs. MAF can CRACK under that pressure as well !!!

More often than not, no name goalies put on a show when playing our Leafs. Not many play like Patrick Lalime against us.

I don't want to trade for a goalie, would rather those assets strengthen another part of the team.

Give Mrazek a go for the next couple of games, let Jack rest. He was lights out for huge chunks of the season pre-all-star game. Give him some recharge time and run with him again.

I think the best scenario is if we are not picking up a new starter, then let Mrzaek play a 2 week stretch of games, where Campbell can just take a load off his mind. then brig him in against a cupcake team. Build his confidence up slowly. For what ever reason this guy fell off a cliff, that is not normal to play at the high of a level then fall off the cliff with no signs of getting better. He clearly is not currently in the right place to be a starter.

Not quite the same though as Schneider was traded for the draft pick used to select Bo Horvat. Any highly proven player isn't likely to be traded for a goalie. I do agree with you that teams simply don't trade their elite goaltenders.

We had plenty of opportunities to draft guys like Demko, Oettinger, Hart, Ect. But this team refuses to use early picks on goaltenders.

I'm actually not worried about the goalies.

I think the biggest thing is to stick to the plan and give Mrazek some rope, that's why we went with a tandem system.

Campbell obviously isn't feeling it at the moment, and Mrazek hasn't played in more than 2 games in a row all year, this has to change.

Campbell and Mrazek will get better. The current numbers are obviously shocking and exaggerated.

The real concern is what they have shown over the long term. Campbell is someone that has long stretches of bad games meaning he could lose an entire series on his own. He lacks the ability to shake off a bad performance and that's been clear since day one.

You obviously hope the opposite happens and things line up where he's in the middle of a heater entering the playoffs. However, that's a scary thing to hope for and rarely works out.

Mrazek is fine too but he's fundamentally a dangerous goalie even at his best. Minimal rebound control and odd movements that will get found out in a playoff series by a good team. Even then, it's probably right to let him have a proper run in the net to see if something clicks.

Just like Campbell, Mrazek is another guy you hope is in the middle of a heater at the right time.

Unfortunately, Dubas isn't going to change the goalies (probably best not to waste assets) so the only thing now is to hope one of them provides at least average goaltending. Until then, he should look to beef up the team in other places and try to get past Florida/Tampa that way.

Jack may have just decided to stop playing for this team like Freddie did.

How many times can a team hang a goalie out to dry before he gives up? I know Jack was not good the other night but I think the damage has already been done.

A couple of years ago Freddie was coming off an ugly loss to the Panthers and was back in against a pretty bad Devils team. The Leafs were up 5-1 in the 3rd and instead of hunkering down to give their #1 a good night to build on they decided they'd rather pad their stats. The Devils never came all the way back but that 3rd goal they scored you could practically see the fumes rising from his mask.

This is what this team does. If given the choice between locking things down to give their goalie a good night to build on they either stop playing or try to pad their stats. Most times it means their tender gets shelled and the comeback is on.

So, two things to expect regarding this year's playoffs and off-season:
1) The Leafs will get bounced again in the first round
2) Jack will sign elsewhere in July.

I hate to be such a pessimist but that Red Wings game just reinforced what I've seen from this team every year: (And I'm exaggerating here for effect) They'd rather lose 7-6 than win 1-0. That on top of all the other problems we've discussed repeatedly.

There is really only 2 options…

A. Stick with what we have
B. MAF

Gibson would cost to much, and there isn’t anyone else decent that’s available

How has this team not fired the goalie coach Steve Briere? Hell how did he even get an NHL coaching job after only coaching Jr A, which he wasn't even good at? Seriously, good look at the EP pages of the teams he's coached. Not 1 notable NHL goalie came from him long term

Some of you will remember I posted about this moron about a year ago, and it blows my mind that he's still employed. Andersen went to shit after working with him, only to rebound elsewhere. Now it appears everything gold LA did with Campbell is going down the shitter thanks to this jackass.

As for the question at hand, either rent Fleury or swing for the fences with Gibson. There's nobody else available that's better than Campbell

Except this take is based on nothing tangible.

The Leafs are near the top in suppressing high danger scoring oppoprtunities but near the bottom 5 in 5v5 save percentage. That's how bad the goaltending is.

Facts trump feelings every time.

But it was a cool story though.

Not sure what this means. They made it 6-1 and then didn't really press for offense in the 3rd. They gave Andersen an easy 40 minutes (only like 15 shots on goal) so it wasn't a tall order to make a few saves in the 3rd to bring it home. Some teams will push back even when they're down big.

As for Saturday night, the two goalies couldn't stop a beach ball. Nobody tried to "pad their stats" or anything. The skaters played well.

If you are going to criticize Briere for Jack's poor performance now then you also have to give him credit for the period between the trade with LAK and December when Campbell was outstanding. Personally, I don't understand the point in getting so worked up about Briere when we really don't know what he does.

No, I don't. Andersen fell off after around 2 years with Briere. Campbell has done so in roughly the same time frame. It makes that Campbell was relying on what LA taught him and Briere has slowly worn away at that and at his confidence.

No need to say "we" dont know what he does. I know what Briere (and goalie coaches in general) do, I was a goalie.
