What are winnipegs wants/needs? Would almost have to have mrazek going the other way, obviously not as a key asset but for cap purposes.
Prospects? Picks? Nhl ready?

Assuming the Jets are entering re-build mode and Helly wouldn't want to stay around for the future window - Jets need young items for the re-build. Top RD, middle 6 wingers, picks....

Mrazek could take the reins for a bit, maybe, but I'm convinced he's not the solution for a Cup run.

I still have faith in Jack, but he's got to stabilize asap or Dubas will have no choice but to move assets for another tender.

So what is it, we get get guys on defense that help with the play style of our current Goalies, or we get a Goalie that supports our current play style?

We get a goalie that can make house league level saves. Something Campbell and Mrazek have not proven capable of doing lately.

I dont care about track record, I care about results. Both Forsberg and Stolarz often face higher than average SA/60 and more difficult HD/LD situations than our goaltenders have in their careers and have put up decent numbers despite that.

Give them our defense they'd be just fine.

Going after unproven starters who haven't taken on a starters workload is why the Leafs are in this predicament. The solution isn't to double down on unproven backups.

If not MAF, what about Varlamov?

This is the only possible option I see.

He has a proven track record in the playoffs and a career of rarely having a bad start (10% or less).

He fills the gap in our goaltending where we have 2 goalies who both can be really good, but both too often provide a really bad start. At this stage in his career, MAF is another version of that.

If you are spending assets you go with the long term solution in Gibby. If you are trying to save tour job MAF is your guy.

both could be good in the long term. we could still use campbell and MAF as 1a/1b duo. MAF just provides better insurance. he can also mentor campbell. So Campbell could still be in the Leafs future. But this is his first full season transitioning to a full time primary goaltender.

If you need a mentor for a 30 year-old goalie, he's not it.

MAF has been really bad this season beyond the occasional highlight save. I wouldn't move in that direction. He's also at 7 mill against the cap.

I did a deep dive on options in the Campbell thread and I would really feel it's either Varlamov or you just ride with Campbell and Mrazek and pray.

didn't MAF just win a Vezina? Is he really that bad this season?

Is Varlamov still good?

lol John Gibson, maybe 3 years ago.

Jack will come back to form.

What is scary is Jack has had confidence issues since he was drafted and something that takes him time to regain ands it will be his undoing. The pucks are now actually going right threw him and he cant be counted on to makes saves. We witnessed it last year versus the Habs. Jacks history has shown that he is more likely to falter further or again when we need him most. I love Jack and how he has won over the fans but I feel that the mental part of the game will be way to much if the Leaf's advance in the playoffs and the going gets tough for him.

That's what happens when you don't hire the dude with the Twitter potty mouth ;) you get the guy we have.
That hire was for the AHL, and Hannu Toivenen the Marlies current goalie coach, had a decent pro career, which includes 3 years as an NHL backup. The Leafs current goalie coach is Steve Briere, a position he has held since the 15/16 season, his highest level of play was 2 games in the AHL, and was coaching before he joined the Leafs in the WSHL, and the NAHL. It is really mind blowing how someone's first high level pro job is for the richest team in the best league in the world. And I know you weren't disagreeing with me just clearing up who the actual coach is for the Leafs.

As a fan who grew up watching Mrázek play jr in Ottawa, he’s going to kick when you get to the playoffs and he won’t stop kicking. Not saying he’s Domino Hasek but he’ll show up and give you a chance
