So it looks like the jackets are a lock at #1 in the upcoming entry draft, who do you like at #1 and why?

To Be honest id have to go with Seth Jones, although Drouin and Mackinnon are great players it just seems to me that Jones is by far the best player available and I surely think he has the potential to become a top 10 player. The only time I got to see him was in the world juniors and if any of you had the time to watch you would understand what I mean. The Kid is unbelievable, Could you imagine a top line D Pairing of Murray and Jones?

Why is Columbus a lock for number 1? Look at last year, we had the biggest odds at winning the lottery but we didn't. With the new rules, last place team has a lesser % to win the lottery then the past. With that said, if we do get the first pick, I would choose Mackinnon. We have Murray to build around on the back end and with the lack of scoring on this team, I would think it's the best move to choose an offensive forward.

We probably won't pick first, but if we do, I'd trade down a spot or two, or pick Jones. I can't vote, but if I could it would be Jones.

MacKinnon all the way. Having watched both players all year long, there is no way you can say that Jones is "by far better" than MacKinnon. The two are far ahead of everyone else, but I don't think you can say that either one has a huge advantage.

We need forwards, MacKinnon is the best forward in this draft.

I can't vote yet.... more research needed.... Besides, the CBJ have never drafted first other than the coup MacLean pulled off (which few CBJ fans give him credit for even though Rick Nash is the consumate hero of the CBJ)...

(Not comparing the players at all in terms of skill here)

Do you find a similarity between this year and the Stamkos/Hedman year with this draft? Hedmen momentarily took the lead from Stamkos for a couple of the rankings as I recall.

Depends on whose picking number 2 and 3. If one of them is most definitely picking Jones, let them take the #1, and move back one or two spots, and however the cards fall you still get at least one of mackinnon, barkov, drouin, while getting another piece (hopefully) in the process.

Takes two to tango and we saw a prime example last year of Edmonton wanting to move down a few spots but nobody paying the price.

Mackinnon. Next 3 picks- forward, forward, forward. This team needs forwards.

The draft position rule wont change this year http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/story/?id=416279.

uh, that link says it DOES change this year

The only difference in this year's draft lottery will remain that the team that wins the lottery will be awarded the first overall pick. In previous years, winning the lottery only allowed a team to move up a maximum of four places in the draft order.

So the changes are big for the 30th place team, as they have a lower chance of winning the draft lottery. Sure it is better than any other team, but it is halved from previous years.

I'm anticipating that

1. The Jackets will finish 30th, and
2. They will lose the lottery and get the 2nd pick overall.

I guess in that situation it all depends which prospect the team selecting first values most, but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if McKinnon was selected first, leaving the Jackets to take Jones. He would be the crowning jewel of what could end up being a very strong defensive corps that would keep our team in contention for years.

If by chance the Jackets do end up getting the first overall, McKinnon would be my choice. They need offensive skill in the worst way.

What we really need is for us to finish 30th and one of LA/NYR to win the lottery.... And watch the boards completely explode...

Nah, I don't think it would be that bad. Lot worse with some other teams winning the lottery.. EDM, DET and so on.

I know but it'd be funny to see all the "OMG COLUMBUS" threads.

But really...

MacKinnon and Jones? Game, set, match.

Endless optimism. LAK or NYR are in position and win the lottery. We then have top two picks. Hey, a guy can dream.

Gotta go with Mack. Jones is a fantastic D prospect, and may be as good as Mackinnon, but given how close the two are in my book we take the potential 1st line center.

BPA and the tie break is need.
