I dunno. I just don't think "this person must be trying to start shit" is that high up on my list of thoughts when I see something like that, and I say that as a person who sometimes wears clothing specifically aimed at starting shit (just not at something like sports events).

Of the dozens of times I've seen a Red Sox hat at Yankee Stadium (and the Red Sox nowhere in sight), I guarantee you it's been "let me just grab a baseball cap for the baseball game" zero times.

I've been attending NHL games at multiple arenas for over 50 years. I usually wear the visiting team's jersey to these events for some visual variety in the crowd (a drop in the proverbial ocean). Beyond the occasional friendly chirp - more than once from my wife - my only physical encounter on a game night was more than a decade ago when the STL Blues mascot Louie decided to shower me & my Canucks jersey with a box full of coffee stirrers while I was in my seat between periods. Turns out he runs pretty fast for a dude in a 20-lb. mascot costume.

However, some barns you just stay away from.. Montreal, Toronto.. Boston in particular I've heard horror stories from

Toronto has the tamest home crowd in the league. Their fans are horribly behaved in other team's arenas but the ones in Toronto wouldn't want to misbehave in their employer's seats.

You tend to see this kind of thing from douchey early 20's folks who don't have kids, so they don't think about it.

Penguins fan here that lived in St. Louis, MO from 2008-2011. I have seen several Blues games throughout my life with family who live in Southern Illinois and I've gone to several myself when the Penguins are in town. These two teams always get up to play one another and Blues fans have always treated me very well. STL is a cool city with good people.

My dad and I attended a Ducks game against the Oilers in 2017 when they were both in a heated chase for the division title. We wore our gear.

Ducks fans.... were nothing but respectful and nice. Even after we lost there was only friendly jabs. I dropped some food and a fan told me to go ask for a replacement.

Loudly remind everyone around you that Dallas are the North Stars and that cowboy hats are ridiculous on 98% of the people wearing them. Then claim that the Alamo was a liberal conspiracy and that you know who really shot J.R.
You'll be fine.

Also yell, "His foot was in the crease!"......they'll know what it's about.

Seriously though, just don't get drunk, overly cocky, and act like you own the joint. As a Wild STHer, those are the type of visiting fans that I have always wanted to push down the stairs from time to time. Can't imagine it's much different in other arenas.

No, not true, I've been to the Bridge for 100's of games.

And to the OP, you're not going to be a blip on their radar. Home crowds are used to seeing different away fans at every game. Wear your team gear and have a good time.

I may be remembering wrong but I thought I saw an away section in the seating chart on Ticketmaster. That was my first game though so I’m probably mistaken

I've been fortunate enough to see the Penguins play in a bunch of different arenas and the opposing fans have been super nice. Just be a normal person and engage them in conversation about your mutual love if hockey. If you tell someone you're from out of town they'll probably give you restaurant recs, etc.

When I was at a Vegas game, a bunch of Knights fans (some of the best in the league ) took us out for drinks afterwards.

I'd say this applies probably for every team except the Flyers, because I wouldn't be caught dead in that s***hole town with their garbage fans.

I know a guy who went to a Pats game with a buddy and they both wore Eli Manning jerseys. The entire section bought them beers in a game recognizes game moment.

But that's a rare occurrence and not the same as your example, given the Giants and Pats don't even play in the same conference and aren't really rivals.

I went to an oilers vs sens game a few years ago here in Ottawa and someone was wearing a leaf phaneuf jersey and people outside the arena were calling him some really bad names.
