Yeah, even with the players not released France looks clear favorites. Looking at the rosters Argentina looks really good as well. Surprised they got Alvarez and Otamendi as overager players right after COPA.

It feel alot better about the US chances if they could have taken all of the eligible players already with the Sr team, but US isnt alone in that regard. I just don't see where the US goals will come from with that roster.

Annoyed at Spain for bringing 24 year olds as their over-agers.

The point of the Olympics is to bring back grizzled veterans for one last job!!!

There is no excuse for Spain's over-agers not being, like, Juan Mata, Raul Albiol, and Iago Aspas.
Cazorla should have come (yes, he's still playing)

Aside from the obvious wish for good football, hopefully the tournament goes without huge trouble, although I fear that there might be some incidents/protests at the Israel matches.

Any final between France, Spain or Argentina should be a good one. If all three win their group and advance, France would meet Spain in the SFs.

How so? No familiar faces.
They don’t need to be familiar faces yet. Medina, Equi and Echeverri are all good young players with a lot of potential. That’s what the olympics are for, I just doubt Masch will be able to utilize them he’s a terrible coach but they have more talent in midfield than anywhere else on the field imo.

Mark Pubill puts Spain ahead against Uzbeks, finishing from close range after Abel Ruiz clanced a header to him from near post after a free kick.

Still scoreless between Argentina and Morocco, Argentina had decent opportunities early in the match, but it's been pretty tight and even since.

Uzbeks get a PK, Cubarsi grapped an opponent's shoulder and there was also a touch by his leg, and the opponent was smart enough to go down. Shomurov then scores from the spot.

At the same time Morocco takes the lead, nice movement and passing on the right flank, and then Rahimi scores from front of goal, when keeper Rulli and defender failed to interrupt the low pass.

Edit: 2-0 now for Morocco already, early 2nd half PK from Rahimi to score his 2nd.

Edit2: Quite a lot of fouling by Argentina now. Giuliano Simeone (one of Diego's sons) came on to provide spark.

Edit3: Spain gets a rather easy PK now around hour mark, but Sergio Gomez of ManCity misses it, as keeper saves the shot with his feet. But he makes amends few minutes later, scoring from inside the box after Miranda's cutback.

Edit4: And Simeone provides spark indeed some minutes later, sliding in and roofing the ball from the back post to make it 2-1. And just a moment later Morocco keeper makes a good one-handed save from a close range header. And then he goes on the gets the slightest of touches on the ball, to prevent Alvarez's shot going in.

Edit4: Finally Echeverri comes on at 84th minute.

Amazing finish, Argentina heads two subsequent bars and the third effort goes in on 107th minute.

New Zealand gets kind of PK which I don't like. Their player kicks the ball out of bounds with a poor touch, and the the keeper makes a slight touch on him a bit later. It was not a scoring chance, not even a passing chance really.

Justice was served though, and PK was missed with a shot going way wide. New Zealand takes the lead a bit later anyway.

Moving into added time, NZ still lead 1-0 over Guinea. Guinea has clearly better individual players (some pretty well known in Europe, like Diawara, Naby Keita, Ilaix Moriba), but something is clearly off in their teamplay. Everything is kind of chaotic, lots of bad passes and turning the ball over.

NZ players are giving a good effort, but they really shouldn't have business in winning this match.

In the other match, don't really know any of the players outside of ElNeny, but Egypt are still being held to a 0-0 draw at half-time. There has been nothing especially good on show so far.
