Team Canada

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - McDavid - Seguin
Tavares - Toews - Stamkos
O'Reilly - Getzlaf - Perry

Keith - Weber
Vlasic - Doughty
Pietrangelo - Burns

Carey Price
Braden Holtby
Corey Crawford

I think there is a lot of potential for change in the forward groups. Does Canada still send Toews if he's a consistent 50 point player by that time? Do both Perry and Getzlaf still have a spot or are they aged out (Perry probably already has, I think Getzlaf will still make the team)? What if Bergeron can't get his offensive ability back? There could be some tough decisions, but knowing hockey Canada, I could see them sending underperforming retreads over someone who may be playing a better game lately but hasn't cracked the team yet. The team would be good enough for gold either way, so I guess who really cares? :yo:

Probably something like this:

Forsberg - Bäckström - Wennberg
Sedin - Sedin - Landeskog
Zetterberg - Rask - Rakell
Steen - Backlund - Hörnqvist
Johansson, Kruger

OEL - Karlsson
Hedman - Strålman
Hjalmarsson - Ekholm
Lindholm

Lundqvist
Lehner

Love what the Sedins have done for Sweden, but it's time to move on.

We have to let the new generation take over now.

Steen and Hornqvist don't look great this season either.

We have a lot of young players between the ages 18-25 who could possibly become elite. It's their time to shine now.

I'm just drooling all over myself if this is what they go with. That lineup is probably the best assortment of talent in the entire world but as someone from the United States I wouldn't have it any other way.

The only real weakness (if you even want to call it one) I see in that lineup is that other than McDavid there's hardly new blood in that lineup at all, just the tried and true of the NHL that's gonna start getting gray in the ear any day now. The advantage to be gained is that USA is already gonna have a ton of game tape and know what to expect from these guys. It's just gonna be a case of "You know it's coming so try and stop it" and we will have to be up to the task. I think we'll be fine.

Bring it on. I am SO ready for this

I can't help but to look at our roster and wonder the comments about Finland surpassing Sweden in talent. Sure, we've gotten a couple of elite players in the recent years but our D looks pretty horrid when compared to other countries. I like Ristolainen, but that's about it. Vatanen is way overrated. Just look at Sweden's and Canada's D, it's on another level.

I prefer the veteran forwards in big tournys, especially with all elite D we have. I do look forward to seeing this new generation but I'm ok waiting til 2022.

Sorry about the mess but Korean names are hard to figure out aside from the imports.

Based on their home league, the imports they have playing for them, and their rosters from the world championships and Olympic qualifiers.

But you have Eriksson on your team? He is also a shadow of his old self but he was never that good from the start.

Sedins is maybe not in their prime anymore and should not have leading roles, but they are still among our top 13 best forwards. It is not all or nothing.

I mean doping scandal. There are some rumors that whole Russian Olympic team will be banned.

Oh, yeah but that's the womens team that the rumors are about, but they just took meldononium (or however it is spelled), which isnt a problem anymore. Shame that U18 team got sent home before they rethinked about banning because of that drug.
Or do you mean the entire Olympic team being banned? Nah, I think they will probably do something that reminds about the Rios.

Anyway, I think Russias chance of gold will be great if NHL decides not to come. Ovechkin said he will come anyway, and even though people may say "He has to listen to the team that pays his salary", I don´t think Washington wants to risk upseting its franchise player for a great time to come instead of just letting him skip 5-6 games or so. Some players are just too great to "threat".

What I am talking about is not related to meldonium. I am talking about scandal with replaced samples during games in Sochi. This case is not closed.

If the entire Russian team doesn't get banned

Panarin/Kuznetsov/Tarasenko
Ovechkin/Shipachyov/Radulov
Kovalchuk/Malkin/Kucherov
Gusev/Anisimov/Barabanov
Dadonov
Namestnikov

Provorov/Zaitsev
Zadorov/Voynov
Orlov/Chudinov
Emelin

Bobrovsky
Vasilevskiy
Sorokin

Something off the top of my head. Probably be completely different

Lol, who cares which team wins if the best aren't playing there. Especially if Ovechkin plays for Team Russia whilst other teams have B-class players.

At least I would care as much :) It's still the olympics. Boxing at the olympics is as important/entertaining even though the big guys don´t appear, that doesnt steal the show. I know many won´t agree but NHL didn´t let players go before 98 either and at least for the european teams the olympics has been as important before as after. Best thing about it could be that some players might wait with leaving for NHL because they don´t want to miss out on the olympics if they feel that they could make the team.

Agreed.

It's a team reliant on NHL + International chemistry. These guys probably have one more tournament in them.

Taylor Hall will get a serious look I'd imagine. I'd even look at Giroux to replace Getzlaf.

TC brain trust hates Hall. The only other player in the dog house like that is Subban.

Giroux hasn't been a TC favourite, nor did he perform particularly well in the most recent best on best tournament.

Getzlaf could certainly be replaced though.

The defensive/two way forwards in Toews/Bergeron/Marchand/Couture/Carter will certainly be in the discussion.

If the NHLers aren't there, I'm certainly not going to stay up into the middle of the night to watch a bunch of nobodies compete.

This is the team I drew up earlier in the fall, but of course the makeup of the team depends heavily on the management team that is put together for the tournament and the coaching staff (i.e., whether Babcock returns as head coach or not):

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - McDavid - Seguin
Duchene - Toews - Schiefele
Tavares - Getzlaf - MacKinnon
Stamkos, O'Reilly

Keith - Doughty
Vlasic - Letang
Pietrangelo - Weber
Brodie, Burns

Price
Holtby
Murray

HMs:
D - Subban, Rielly, Ekblad
F - Carter, Hall, Perry, Couture, Stone
G - Crawford
