Assuming NHL:ers go, which team do you think you'd send?

I'll start with Sweden.

Nylander-Bäckström-Forsberg

Landeskog-Zibanejad-Rakell

Johansson-Wennberg-Arvidsson

Hagelin-Krüger-Silfverberg

(Burakovsky, Nyqvist, A.Nylander)

Lindholm-Karlsson

Hedman-Strålman

OEL-Larsson

(Klingberg, Brodin, Hjalmarsson)

Lehner
Markström

Am I missing someone? Steen? Eriksson?

For now I'm assuming no guys with NHL contracts including AHL players. Also unclear on the NCAA eligibility rules for playing against pros... An individual shall not be eligible for intercollegiate athletics in a sport if the individual ever participated on a team and knew (or had reason to know) that the team was a professional team (per Bylaw 12.02.4) in that sport.

David Booth-Tim Sestito-Brian O'Neill
Ryan Shannon-Jeff Taffe-Bobby Butler
Greg Mauldin-Casey Wellman-Steve Moses
Adam Hall-Chad Rau-Dan Sexton

Clay Wilson-Patrick Mullen
Jonathan Blum-Matt Gilroy
Brian Connelly-Taylor Arnoson

Ryan Zapolski
David Leggio
Cal Heeter

EDIT: I'm a moron and read assuming NHLers don't go.... oh well

- Zadorov is progressing, I expect him to be better then Emelin and Marchenko by 2018.
-I'm really hoping Kamenev develops quickly, but it's probably too short of time. He can be a really good 2-way center, something this team needs.
- I wouldn't be surprised if guys like Ozhiganov, Barabanov, Gusev and Shalunov get a shot at NHL before OG.

Tough to say, I made two seperate lists - one is players that I think are locks and will be undoubtedly on the team, and the other list is the candidates for the remaining sposts.

Locks:
G: Carey Price, Braden Holtby
D: Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, Shea Weber, Marc-Edouard Vlasic
F: Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Patrice Bergeron, Jamie Benn, Connor McDavid, John Tavares, Tyler Seguin, Steven Stamkos, Ryan Getzlaf

That leaves me 1 spot for a goalie, 4 spots for defensemen, and 5 for forwards.

The candidates for the remaining spots:
G: Corey Crawford, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andre Fleury, Martin Jones, Jake Allen, Matt Murray
D: T.J. Brodie, Jay Bouwmeester, Jake Muzzin, Morgan Rielly, Mark Giordano - P.K.Subban, Alex Pietrangelo, Kris Letang, Aaron Ekblad, Brent Burns
F: Jeff Carter, Nathan MacKinnon, Taylor Hall, Matt Duchene, Corey Perry, Ryan O'Reilly, Mark Stone, Wayne Simmonds, Mark Scheifele, Brad Marchand, Jason Spezza, Brendan Gallagher, Rick Nash, Claude Giroux, Logan Couture

Marchand and Carter are basically locks too.

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Tavares - McDavid - Carter
Benn - Toews - Seguin
O'Reilly - Getzlaf - Stamkos
MacKinnon
Duchene

Keith - Doughty
Vlasic - Weber
Pietrangelo - Burns
Brodie
Ekblad

Price, Holtby, Crawford

Bobrowski, Varlamov, Sorokin, Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy depending on who is healthy and in a better shape

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Radulov

Kovalchuk-Malkin-Nichushkin

Gusev-Grigorenko-Kucherov

Panarin-Anisimov-Tarasenko

Datsyuk(yes, I know he will be 39 years old), Namestnikov

There are still many possible breakout canddates before 2018.

Zaitsev - Orlov

Zadorov - Provorov

Emelin - Voynov

I like that we finally seem to have an axis of solid DD in Emelin, Zadorov and Zaytsev.

A lot of young players knocking at the door like Sergachev, Mironov, Tryamkin. Some of them will definitely fill out the remaining spots.

Team Finland with NHL players.

Laine Barkov Puljujärvi
Lindell Ristolainen

Aho Mi Granlund Rantanen
Juolevi Määttä

Jokinen Koivu Filppula
Vatanen Jokipakka

Salomäki Haula Pakarinen
13th forward Teräväinen
7th defenseman Kukkonen

Goalies
Rask
Rinne
Korpisalo

Potential candidates
Joonas Donskoi¨
Aleksi Saarela
Artturi Lehkonen
Kasperi Kapanen
Joel Armia
Ville Pokka
Julius Honka
Ville Husso
Juuse Saros
Antti Raanta
Antti Niemi

The Czech team could be very good up front:

Hertl Krejci Pastrnak
Palat Zacha Voracek
Frolik Hanzal Vrana
Sobotka Plekanec Nestrasil
Faksa Jaskin

Defence... I have no clue. Gudas and Sustr are 100% locks, Kempny, Nakladal should also be there despite their playig time. Then probably we have Polak, Jordan, Polasek, Kundratek, Mozik and Jerabek batteling for the remaining spots. Handedness and aboundance of defensive D man will be an issue.
I don't think that the young guns on D will be ready... maybe Masin, but i doubt it.

Mrazek is the starter, with Neuvirth being a good backup option.

Please, its time to move on from Krüger-Silfverberg-Hagelin. Why would they make this team when we have Burakovsky, Rask, Fast etc. We dont need role-players with stonehands when instead we can have 4 scoring lines.

Strålman in 2018 will not be better than Brodin, Klingberg, Forsling, Ekholm, Klefbom etc.

If Mark Scheifele keeps playing this good, he should make Team Canada.

Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Tavares Getzlaf Stamkos
McDavid Toews Carter
Benn Scheifele Seguin
Hall O'reilly Mackinnon
Duchene Giroux Perry/Marner

I'm guessing 14 players from that collective list.

Because they are superior defensively.

Rask might make the team, but not on a shutdown line like that.

Not sure about Krüger, but there's really no other center better than him defensively.

Fasth and Bura are extremely overrated.

For a short tourney it makes much more sense for Zetterberg to be that 4th line/shutdown center... Then one of Rask or Zibanejad could center the 3rd line.
Also Silfver should make the team probably on that kind of defensive line.

This view of shutdown lines comes for clubs when their is fewer players to worry about and you have salary cap to worry about, so it is good to have a couple of cheap player that can eat some minuts etc. Bringing this way of thinking into the national team is a mistake and only leads to that you take out worse player instead clearly better players and therefore decrease your chances of winning.

Even if Kruger is the best defensivly, overall he is nowhere near top 4 centers. Plus who is he suppose to shut down anyway? Never got that, since the top teams have more than 1 line to worry about, and even if that was not the case, should he then be giving 1-line minuts since that top line he shall shutdwon will get top minuts. It is usually the first line that is the true shutdown line in NHL btw, just they are demanding to produce forward themself as well.

Silfverberg, I really like what I see in NHL, but in the national shirt he has been meh both in olympics and now WC, shall he really be giving a 3th chance without taking a step up in NHL? Hagelin bringed speed, that was his thing, but it starts to become unessarary. So even if I like both Hagelin and Silfverberg, they have to prove themself.

Johansson - Bäckström – Rakell
Forsberg – Wennberg - Zetterberg
Landeskog - Rask - W Nylander
Sedin – Sedin - Zibanejad

Always possible that players like Marcus Eisenschmid could make it next year. Jonas Muller could also be vying for a defensive spot. Also younger players like Michaelis, and Tiffels who play in the NCAA might be able to make that break through. Lots of things can change in a year so anything can happen.

I think both Z and the twins are done in the national team.

We need to move on.
