Finnish team looks pretty solid for maybe even make some problems to Russia.

Wouldn't mind seeing Canada bring a team to this World Championship to prepare for the Olympics.

Might be a good idea actually to assemble a team without NHLers this spring. Get guys you expect to be available next winter. European leaguers and prospects.

You are incredibly underrating the "other" canadians ouside the NHL, and overrating the other countries. NO nation would have NHL players. Sweden without NHL players isn't going to be much better than Canada, if at all. HockeyCanada could select the best from Europe - which would be a pretty good team in relation to competition imo, plus maybe a few best junior players (this year I would choose Patrick, Barzal, or Dubois and Chabot for example). I think such a team will be able to win the gold. We have never seen such a team, so it's hard to tell. But I wouldn't writte them off, absolutely not.

This. A team consisting of the best Europe-based Canadians plus some junior standouts (e.g. Paul Kariya played in the 94 Olympics), with competent coaching? Most likely in the competition for a medal.

On the other hand, I'm not so sure about the USA.

That's a horrible line-up, still that would be 4th best team in the Olympics behind Sweden, Russia and Canada

So boring without NHLrs..guess Russia will win easy now

I'm not convinced of that, but at this point, whether or not they can or blow another one is the only intriguing thing that a non NHL Olympics has got going for it. It's still not enough to make me watch a second of it, but I may keep one eye on my tweeter feed for game updates.

On one hand it will be great for the players who make the bigger countries squads(Canada, Sweden, Finland etc.) to get a chance to play for their country on the Olympic stage. On the other hand I'll struggle and I'm sure others will struggle to watch the games now that it's not the top players going.

If guys like Ovechkin do go and we get a couple of higher NHL players per team then it becomes more interesting. Russia still gets guys like Datsyuk and other top guys, so I'll be interested to see the rosters leading up and how the teams match up in the opening games.

That looks like a great team... For the ****ing Karjala Tournament!

International best-on-best hockey is officially dead. I sincerely hope everyone who gladly supported the charade that was the World Cup is happy now because now the players and the fans ended up paying the ultimate price.

Even Jim slater said while he'd be ecstatic to go the Olympics it should be the best players.
