I would be actually interested to see the best canadian team outside of the NHL. There are some good players in the KHL, in other european leagues, maybe add some juniors, and maybe some AHLers if that's possible (probably not I guess), but definitely a team not without a chance to win. It would be hilarious

Canada would still have a good shot at a medal with just European players. I think people are overestimating Russia as being able to waltz right through the tournament. The only team that would sink dramatically would be the Americans. They would go from gold medal threat to probably below Switzerland and only above Norway, Germany and Slovenia

Agreed, they won't waltz through. This is not the 1970's or 80's anymore. The playing field is more level now, they will have a tough time winning even with all KHL players.

I'd go even further and the Olympics as a tourney are nothing without NHL hockey participation, and I love watching a lot of other winter sports.

Is there any chance players like Radulov, Kulikov and Hudler decide not to sign this summer and instead go to the KHL for a year to play in the Olympics?

I've been a proponent of the WJC approach for a long time. Bettman as much as said that the league gets no benefit from the Olympics outside of North America. It might be a ruse, but my gut tells me that he's not interested.

So, send the juniors. Postpone the WJC in Olympic years, and use the Olympic games to promote the next generation.

Is there a possibility that Hockey Canada could bring back the Program of Excellence? A national men's team that played a full season together all over the world against both national and club teams.

The NHL doesn't control the age limit for the Olympic tournament and it doesn't control who the federations select. The IIHF has no incentive to follow that plan either, and the federations aren't just going to pick junior players unless forced.

That would just diminish interest in the tournament so never gonna happen.

Whatever helps you sleep at night

The Olympic games are meant to be among the largest stages in the world.

That means best on best you Can't have best on best unless NHL players are playing in that tournament

Witbank the NHL players Olympic hockey is meaningless

Bet you it's the highest TV rated hockey of the year

and so what. it will still be a meaningless tournament.

I wish my compatriots plying their trade in European leagues success at this tournament...and if they make the GMG I may even tune in to watch. but then again, depending on the start time, I may not.

Amateurs?

A lot of these guys get paid better in Europe then half of NHLers.
No.

They make good dough but no. You wouldn't stand a chance to make even the minimum wage in any league save one, and salaries in that league are not commonly as aggrandized as they are in popular culture.
