Lol Canada really shouldn't be celebrating this. They squeaked out a win vs Latvia.

Dear Team USA,

Please spank these good ole Canadian boys.

The fix was in on that last penalty. Penalty was weak. Let's be honest, who would want US vs. Latvia over US vs. Canada. That's not to say that Latvia would have ever scored a 2nd goal, but weak call to lead to the game winner.

That was a crazy game. It was like a 60 minute powerplay I'd like to see the zone time.

Strayder said it best.

Canada Survives.

I'm so disappointed with them as a team. They look horrific

my dad sent me a text, saying just that

I feel like USA is the more balanced team. The Backes line has probably been the most physically dominant in the tournament. Despite Perry and Getzlaf I think the US team is more well rounded in that regard. It should be a evenly matched game and it could come down to special teams/Webers shot vs. Callahan's blocks. Ugh.

Outshot them 57-16, so...

This.

They put almost 60 shots on net. The USA homer crap in this thread is absurd. Canada did not roll over and die like Russia. I hope USA's defense and goaltending can keep them to a lot less than 57 shots.

Let's stop pretending the US is going to hand Canada their lunch because of this game.

The one thing I can say for the Olympics is there are some interesting european free agent pickups the Rangers could make. Without getting into names I'd be looking at some of the younger guys. The Latvian goalie today might be one. The older guys you have to be careful about--they tend to make more where they are and if you sign them for any length of term to a one way and they have trouble fitting in--then you've pretty much wasted a roster slot and are stuck with the cap hit.

Have to say--Petr Nedved looks like he can still skate.

Both Americans and Canadians are going to be intolerable for the next 48 hours.

Tavares done for the Olympics with a knee injury. Gotta feel bad for the Islanders if it's bad

Tampa Bay i believe drafted him already

So goaltending is the most variable aspect of hockey game-by-game. If you play that game over 100 times, I'd guess 6-0 comes up more times than 2-1.

Has there been any games in the Olympics with a bigger shot discrepancy?

There's a lot of randomness in hockey (a point I'm sure I've been annoying you with for the past few days). When strange occurrences like this score happen, you get all the storylines coming out: "Canada is unprepared", "Nolan is dominating Olympics", but IMO, this game was exactly what one would have expected outside of the blue paint.

Bolts selected him in the 5th round this year http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=163423
