Player Discussion Oliver Wahlstrom Claimed by Bruins

I'm not happy that the Bruins seemingly think there isn't a better option to ice but I hope he breaks thru and starts popping in some goals to help his confidence. I just think he's overly redundant on this team as another big bodied skater with slow feet.

Geekie -- Zacha -- Pasta

Marchand -- Lindholm -- Coyle

Kopeke -- Poitras -- Brazeau

Beecher -- Kastelic -- Lysell

Just do this already.
Where is Frederic? Traded?

I’ve been impressed by him for a waiver pickup. He’s the motor on that third line and they were probably the best line last night. He can definitely hit and check a lot better than I thought.

He didn't impress me at all when he first joined the team. I think he's more comfortable now & IMO his last 2 games have been his best.

I think he managed 7 shots last night. At least he is getting his shots on net. I doubt they would waive him. If they waive him I’m sure the isles would take him back.

He's at least giving a good effort out there. If he busts out if won't be for lack of trying, which is all that can be asked of him.
I thought claiming him off waivers was just a stupid "local boy" type of move. But the "slow-sucks" mantra that started before the guy was even able to participate in a single practice at Warrior has been ridiculous.

His minutes look stable at 13 minutes. He's putting pucks on net, something this team has struggled with all season. Some of his shot attempts have been a smidge from being snipes at the corners. He seems to nail an opponent once a game and while I loathe the Hits metric, he's been credited with more hits than most of the current roster.

He's slow, but it's nothing egregious. Lately, the guy seems to have one very nice play, usually early in the game, and one pretty bad play.

I don't know. He looks like an NHLer but his current shooting percentage combined with this team's ineptitude probably combine for itchy trigger fingers and trying to find the least common denominator. It feels like they haven't won since claiming Wahlstrom, but I don't really see him as the cause for the team taking the gas pipe.

That line has been the best line in the last 3 games, but it cant be true because freddy is on it lol

I pretty much agree. I just look at every minute we're giving him as one that could go to Poitras or Lysell and it makes me sad.

While I think Wahlstrom has some potential and haven't minded his play, it definitely is sad to see that Lysell can come up and have a pretty good showing and gets sent straight down, yet a team starved for scoring has no problem keeping Wahlstrom for 8 pointless games, and potentially more.

I'm all for giving him a fair shake, but I just don't get why they give guys outside the organization this much rope and Merk/Lysell seem to have to go a point per game if they want to stay up

seen enough, not convinced Lysell or Poitras can`t bring more, worth a shot but I see a guy who tries hard but simply doesn`t have much polish to his game
So much this. Why are we giving chances to other team's castoffs when they haven't given our own youth an actual shot? I mean really. What's the worst that happens? They don't score and the team still loses 4-0 to Edmonton? Okay and?

Playing them, you are right, if they play well you hit on something, if they don't you can send them back. Now if they play well and you need to send back down, here is where you are hurting yourself, the Bruins are really thin on assets, should these two assets fail, their value decreases and your assets, take a hit, and you have devalued them even more. I personally, Lysell when I watched him in some tournaments, was very excited about him, have since tempered my opinion. Poitras, skill level looks great, but I fear him lasting in the NHL, at least as a top six for any length of time. Bottom line for me if they can add value to a good deal, then package them.

Though he was one of their best players last night.

I don't think he's slow at all.

He's below the 50th percentile in all measureable skating statistics for speed available. Geekie is the slowest measured regular forward on the Bruins, with Brazeau also below the 50th percentile in all measured skating stats for speed.

You are talking about a 24 year old first rounder, with NHL games under his belt, very cap friendly for a team in cap hell, no risk pickup, better than picking up 34 year old undersized player.

guy is going on game 10. Gets third line mins and PP2. Is duck duck goose for points. Like give a kid a shot. Between him and Ty guy ( 9 games with two assists) just cut bait and role with one or two younger guys who actually know where the net is.
