Dallas currently has 8 D that require waivers. That plus they seem set on keeping Lindell with the bigs, so that makes 9D. Oleksiak and Nemeth seem to be the odd men out because of waivers.

Note to stars fans: this thread is under the premise Backman is an NHLer come camp time because I don't know why he would resign with if he didn't have a solid chance at an NHL roster spot.

Oleksiak and Nemeth are recent-ish first and second round picks respectively, both LHD and big bodied.

At this point I personally, as a Stars fan, value Nemeth over Oleksiak both by play and the fact that Nill apperantly rejected offers for Nemeth at the deadline this year.

Is there anyone in need of a young LHD who could be had for cheap and still has the off chance of being a top 4 guy? I think both need more ice time and Nill is reluctant to move then but I really like both of them and would like to see them get a chance somewhere other than Dallas

Similar blocked wingers,I think, would be perfect

That is a pretty huge premise.

Regardless, I don't like having eight defenders.

Neither are worth more than a late round pick, at this point. Nemeth at least has shown glimpses of being a solid NHLer.

Im pretty convinced that a guy who has already gone back to Europe because of no ice time, then threatens the same thing but gets a contract, was told he has a legit shot at a spot. Trade Oleksiak/Nemeth for a pick/ similar blocked player and let Backman take their spot

Look at Backmans salary for the AHL. He got a sizeable raise to play AHL top-pairing with Honka . He will probably have a promise of call-ups if he plays well.

Oleksiak's value is nothing. Nemeth's value is slightly higher than nothing.

I give you Desharnais for Oleksiak since the original monster defenseman (Tinordi) experiment didn't work out.

Hopefully he still has potential to at least turn into a John Scott 2.0 flexible (f/d) type of goon. :sarcasm:

i really dont buy the rejecting offers for nemeth at the deadline thing. if they liked him that much they wouldnt have been so desperate to acquire a player that would ensure he wasn't going to play.

I'd do this out of value only. Essentially turning a fringe NHLer into a legitimate one.

I really doubt Oleksiak becomes a grinder. He has very little snarl to his game.

I'd give you Burmistrov for Nemeth if Josh Morrissey can't make the team.

I think I'd do this.

Luca Sbisa for either of them?

Haha, no. I don't even know is Sbisa is an upgrade on either, and we're not adding that cap hit.

As an impartial party, that seems like a pretty solid deal for both sides. :handclap:

Jets could certainly use a LHD with a bit of potential left to explore - would let them really slow-cook Morrissey. Stars could certainly use a reasonably versatile forward with an affordable cap number and some skill - while clearing a bit of a logjam on the blueline.

Oleksiak was supposed to be a good defenseman, maybe going to another team could give his career a jump start.
