If I'm not mistaken, 78-79 was the last season the NHL had playoff seeding league-wide (ie: 1v16, 2v15, etc.). As an intellectual exercise only, since it would be too much of a toll on many teams to travel cross country through four series, what do you guys think about how the playoffs would go and would it be as or more exciting as the current or more recent formats? The only thing I forget from that era is if it were bracketed or reseeded after each round. Hopefully, someone can let us know.
As of today's standings there would be quite a few interesting 1st round matchups.
Nashville v Calgary
Anaheim v Vancouver
St. Louis v Winnipeg
Tampa Bay v San Jose
Montreal v Boston
Detroit v Washington
NY Islanders v NY Rangers
Pittsburgh v Chicago
Thoughts? Speculations?
