Old rivalries and despised players

Jumbo almost ending Perron’s career. Fast forward to Perron hoisting the Cup and Jumbo never doing that was proper revenge.

Jumbo leaving the B’s right before they won the Cup with Tim Thomas and Perron hoisting the Cup on that same ice will always be both ironic and foretelling for me.
I don't know if I'd say he left "just before" winning the cup. Joe was traded to the Sharks in November of 2005 if I remember right. The Bruins didn't win it until 2011. The core that won the cup was completely different than the early 2000s Thornton core of Guerin/Rolston/Murray

I actually somewhat liked (and definitely respected) the 2000s Ottawa team & i really miss that rivalry. I saw it as us being like couple of brothers who would regularly fight each other but deep down were cut from the same cloth.

I'm probably a little different to most of you guys when it comes to the usual suspects.

I don't hate the Leafs. I might do if they ever became successful. Their fans are 1000x worse than the actual team.

My least favourite team historically is the NY Rangers. Boston is right up there along with Pittsburgh & the current version of Tampa Bay. I disliked Detroit when they were good but am indifferent now. I also hated the trap era NJ team & Scott Stevens was probably the player i disliked the most.

Someone mentioned Eric Lindros... I wasn't in his fan club either. But that was mostly down to reading about what happened with Quebec when he got drafted.

On the other hand - the team i liked the most other than Buffalo was the JS Giguere Mighty Ducks. That was the only time i came close to following another team. Others i tend to root for when we inevitably miss the playoffs are Minnesota, Winnipeg, Nashville & pre-Eichel Vegas. I also root for older guys to win a cup (eg Marleau/Thornton in recent years).

This topic came up in the GDT for the carolina game and decided that it may be thread worthy (mods can delete/move if it's not):

I think with the team being so bad for 11 years, a lot of perceived rivalries have truly cooled off. Maple Leafs and Bruins may always remain high on the list even with losing seasons, but it got me thinking about past rivalries and specifically which opponent players fueled those rivalries.

@Sabresfansince1980 shared a clip from the 05-06 playoff series against OTT and it reminded me of just how much i hated Chris Neil and that team. Do any of you have any players that you just hate because of an old rivalry or some stupid shit they did in a game?

I will share that Johnny Boychuck will always be on my list for slashing and breaking Vanek's ankle in 2010. Maybe Scotty Gomez for slew footing the shit out of Miller behind the net and then playing dumb.

I would love to hear what you all think.

Sabres and the media....full blown fits when we were rebuilding in 2015  didn't have much of problem with us in 2014 but when the draft was stacked in 2015 the words used in articles are almost funny to look back on you would think the Sabres committed an atrocity.

Still hate the Bruins more than anyone else.

I had forgotten about Rolston coming over from the Avs.

I'm not a fan of Rolston's brother.
Hopelessly optimistic me bit hard on the "good for development/great team guy" tag so many times.

Sideshow Bob was someone easily mocked (and was by various Sabres on the ice). It never felt like he did enough to be hated like Mats Sundin and his rabbit punching guys all night.
Blew Pecs up a few times, then that time when Pecs was on the Isle face down on the ice grabbing them knees. I acknowledge live by the sword/die samesame, didn't like seeing that though.

Tucker did that after Peca had made his bed and moved on to the Islanders.

If you don't think the McEichel tank was an atrocity (for multiple reasons) then I can't help you.

Agree on the Bruins. But Flyers and Leafs are close runners-up.

Ill always have a special place of hatred for Richard Panik, Lucic

I hate broduer after the fact, most overrated hockey player of all time and a sleaze bag

tkachucks are rapidly climbing

sabres that forced their way out of buffalo

I generally reserve my sports hatred for fans over players, people that call "jersey fouls" or call you out when you use the first person plural to talk about a team, calling out someone for enjoying their sports team in a safe and respectful way is worse than almost anything ive seen on the ice, good natured sports trash talk is different

Bruh we did trades any normal team would do when rebuilding that year and waited until the TDL to do them. People calling our goalie great after an entire month of losing after like 3 wins in an entire month was hilarious Enroth and Neuvirth were both below average goalies at the time and did nothing after they were traded. Are you telling me you wouldn't make those trades as GM when your team is already out of the race and the goalies had no future with the team? The only thing people cared about was what year it was because most of the damage was done during the 2014 season when we traded actually legitimate star players but no one decided to give a damn just because Reinhart-Ekblad wasn't anything special to them.

There was a game where Probert repeatedly ran Barrasso. Kevin Maguire decided in the third period to even things up and ran Stefon with the game well decided.

There is video of it with the Wings call, which of course does not go into the detail of the reason why being the psycho, drunken coke addict running Barrasso earlier or that he then beats up Yzerman and Gallant before being repeatedly sucker punched by Probert on the bottom of the pile. Also the game where Phil Housley was officially dead to me after he did nothing to help in the scrum and cowered from Coke Lord to let Barrasso get punched.
Hmmm ..I thought the game I was thinking of we had lost....tough to remember that far back
