Old Bauer Skates - Sizing and Model Question

Hello,

here are some questions concerning sizing as well as features of old Bauer skates.

I used to play hockey as a teenager in the mid 90s and I am about to start playing again.

Looking for new skates I went to try some of the new Bauer models and neither liked the look nor the feel of these (got the impression that you would have to spend a lot in order to get some skates with decent quality - compared to a high-end model from 15 years ago).

I looked on Ebay and was surprised to find a lot of old skates Bauer skates “new with box” at a reasonable price. So I decided to get a pair from the Supreme Custom line or maybe the Supreme line.

My old Bauer skates (early 90s) were a size 10 (with 280 TUUK holders), the same size as my shoe size. I have the impression however that this doesn't hold true for "newer" Bauer Skate models anymore. Do you know when sizing changed (to become 1,5 sizes smaller than the actual shoe size for example)?

It would also be interesting for me to learn more about the supreme custom line. There are some with white and some with black holders (what does this signify?).

How is sizing with the Supreme line (from Supreme 1000 to Supreme 8090) compared to the supreme custom line and to todays skates?

Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated!

There is a good thread that is stickied regarding skate selection. I can't help you with your question. I can tell as someone that bought skates in the 90s (ZOMG we're old) that new skates don't have to hurt. Most of the old skates hurt my feet or were too big, new ones are AMAZING if you get them fitted well and baked.

@jazzycat : oh boy breaking in those flowlite ankle pads is very painful - good point in favour of current skates

@PinkEye : I figured that the Nexus line really might be worth looking at, hopefully I'll get a chance to try them on

thanks for your replies!
