Don’t forget that the NHL’s partners, the NHLPA believe it is their duty to protect the rats.Respect your opinion, but I think if that were true the NHL wouldn’t be obsessive about severely penalizing retribution plays on ice.
The NHL seems perfectly ok with a player like Hartman taking out a star player because any attempt to get square when the officials inevitably “miss” it puts your team on the PK.
The league knows who the scum are that deliberately try to injure other players, they just choose to do nothing about it, then punish the teams that take the policing into their own hands.
I don’t think the NHL does a particularly good job but I don’t suspect it will ever get better until the NHLPA takes anything other than and adversarial role. Yes, that means they have to resolve a conflict of interest but seems important to me.
