I honestly can see McDavid getting 2 points per game in this era.

Hes really that good.

Last night he got 2 goals and just missed by an inch on the 3rd. He also set up linemates that should have easily had 2 goals but missed (hopefully thats just preseason rust). Should have had 5 points last night.

I think 2 ppg is a bit high but 1.5 is certaintly a reachable goal if all goes right

It's such a baffling comparison to me. RNH has been the better player in a tougher position. Yak supporters always try to throw shade onto the other players.

i hear ya. you have the patience to put up with it and i really dont. i just hit the button and the problem goes away.

Id like to see the Oilers invite a local aboriginal Canadian who knows "smudging" (i think its called) to do a smudging/cleansing of Rogers and the ice. Just to neutralize things.

The Blue Jays had to do it to Rogers Centre after that skinny blonde country/pop singing swift chick put her voodoo over everything. Then it was re-done for the wildcard game.

I want this done to Rogers Place. I want these injuries to stop

smudge the ice making machine and equipment too please.

make a ceremony out of it...i dont care...just get it done

AND FOR GODS SAKE DONT LET THAT SWIFT CHICK IN OUR NEW HOME...let her contaminate Rexall, if she ever returns.

also--if anyone on here knows how to do it...please just go do it. dont wait for the oilers to invite...just do it. all i ask for this crap to be neutralized.

Ummm. Pouliot? Best player on the ice last night, at both ends of the ice. Was a beast.

Ah yes, thanks. Yes he was a stud. Made some very good plays. It actually is hard to keep an eye on everyone live; I find it easier on TV, can that be right?

I generally only cast "shade" at Eberle when it comes to Yak. Mostly because they traditionally competed for the 1st unit PP/playmaking center wing spot.

I'd say that Yak should be able to make the most of his ice time wherever it is and play a smarter game. But I'd also agree that a lot of HOF caliber players only got where they did in their career because their coach/team gave them a ton of time in a scoring role.

Are you trying to say you want to bless Rogers Place? A lot of Buddhists do this before moving into a new house to remove any evil spirits present before. Funny to hear you say this about a hockey venue.

i see where you are coming from but those people also knew the game and their scoring role. yak doesnt even know that.
i think of snipers and those specialists. yak doesnt find his spots or anything. he just isnt a sniper.

Brett Hull for example was TERRIBLE defensively and didnt have the speed yak has...but he definitely found his spots once he got in the ozone. he was always finding his gaps.
Luc also comes to mind and he didnt have a good shot either.

If you are going to be useless at everything else you ned to have some IQ in the O zone to be dangerous. Yak just isnt dangerous. At best he is a wall for a player like McDavid to bank stuff off of.

One thing I also noticed last night was Eberle always got the puck to McDavid as soon as possible. It was great. Eberle would get a pass and first instinct was to look for McDavid. A couple of times hitting him in stride. If McDavid wasnt open hed carry it, but only till McDavid got open

I love that game plan from Ebs. Get. McDavid. the. puck.

Hell rack up a bunch of assists and probably goals too because of it. he know where his bread is going to get buttered

From the game report it looks like Sekera on the first unit and Klefbom on the second. One time it was Klefbom and Larsson on the second unit, another just Klefbom.

Didn't see the game though so I could be missing some of the dynamics just looking at stats.

Was at the game. Thoughts:

-Benning continues to impress. Not quite ready yet but that's a helluva pickup.
-Reinhart did very much the opposite; every time I noticed a giveaway or muffin pass, it was off #8's stick. He was also blown by on at least one opportunity. Bye.
-Sekera looked just as good as he did at the Worlds. Could be a defining year for him.
-Puljujarvi isn't where he needs to be. Not a surprise as he's still adapting to NA ice, but it's clear some AHL time would do wonders.
-Caggiula, on the other hand, is ready; kid is a buzzsaw, and I'd love to see him paired with McDavid to drive opposing lines crazy.
-McDavid was McDavid. Just when you think he can't find new ways to create scoring opportunities, he stutter-steps around his man and throws in a half-second delay to make a goal out of nothing. 99% of players shoot or pass it into the other team's shinpads and send play back the other way.
-Letestu is going to be a huge part of our PK and ES play, and it's plays like the short-hander that show why. He did everything right there.
-Initially I thought Maroon's weight loss might hurt him, but now I'm worried we won't be able to afford him next year. Could be a 20-20-40 player at the low end, and maybe higher depending on linemates.

Not to salivate over #97 more, but imagine if McD turns out to be just as good a scorer as he is a playmaker? He never looked anywhere close to this dangerous as a shooting threat last season, but now teams will have to respect him in tight thanks to the kind of finish he demonstrated last night.

I'd really like to see the following lines together at some point:

Pouliot-RNH-Eberle
Maroon-McDavid-Caggiula
Lucic-Draisaitl-Versteeg
Hendricks/Pitlick-Letestu-Kassian

McDavid probably doesn't accumulate as many points as he would on a traditionally loaded top line, but as an opposing team, how do you cover all three scoring units? If Lucic and Drai can develop chemistry, every single line would have a combination we know works (RNH/Eberle, Maroon/McDavid, Lucic/Draisaitl) plus a third piece that is interchangeable depending on the situation. It would be a nightmare to defend.

It also seemed that he was taking some of the d-zone burden away from McDavid. Only saw the last 2 periods, but noticed Eberle down below the Oilers' goal line semi-regularly (not that their line spent lots of time there).

I was at the game as well and agree 100% with the observations.

As for the lineup I want Pouliot to be on McDavid's wing. Those 2 just click

I mentioned that during the game as well. I liked what I saw from Ebs.

Still love that quick fake pass to Eberle by McDavid to get a wide open net to shoot the puck into. It all happens in a flash.
