I wouldn’t give up our first to dump Lucic. Retain half and someone would take him.

Carolina has no use for Manning and Drai is the sort of luxury purchase we'd love...but hate the price tag of.
Not sure the Canes will move their 1st under any condition since they're not solidly in the playoff qualifying. DW really values lottery picks and has said so.
Hope we are bringing back McElhinney in 2019-20. He's literally the only Canes goalie I definitely want to see return next year. Mrazek isn't good enough to be an NHL starter (and not as good as McEl) and it is coming to decision time on Nedeljkovic...it's why I would like to see him getting games to see what we have. Mrazek is the one to move right now.
Think this is a pass for us and for Edmonton.

Pass from LA unless Edmonton retains at least 50%. Way too much term left on Lucic at $6 mil/yr.

Ferland is a UFA at seasons end.
McElhinney will be a 36 year old UFA at season's end.
Hamilton, the most valuable piece, is only signed for 2 more seasons.
1st round pick could be mid round.
Even with Manning as a dump and Talbot as a reclamation project, this seems bad value for Edmonton.

Canes already had Rattie once and have no interest in getting him again. Rieder isn't good so don't want him either. Would rather just keep Ferland and let him walk for nothing than take that offer.
Why would Edm even want a rental like Ferland? You are penciling him into next year's line-up, yet he's a UFA at the end of this year.
You've got some explaining to do with this one. I see you found Chiarelli's trade ideas in the garbage can.
You dont move what will be a high 1st along with Lucic to get Lewis in return. My God.

I get that, but what's the chances of that happening? Probably pretty slim.
Anyhow, Rieder and Rattie doesn't even get the Canes talking so the point is moot.
Yeah if we did trade for him it there would probably have to be an extension in place.

Which won't happen IMO. It's pretty evident he wants to go to UFA and I don't blame him 1 bit. This is his best, and maybe only, chance to hit it big.

The only trades Edmonton is going to be able to complete at the deadline are guys like Talbot, Kassian, Petrovic, and maybe Reider, and Benning (and if we're really lucky, Manning) for mid to late round picks. We don't have much in terms of desireable pieces to play with here, except for the guys we aren't planning to move at all.
