Devils in: Laine, Bjorkstrand

Blue Jackets in: Holtz, Mercer, Boqvist, Johnsson, N.J.'s 2022 1st

New Jersey expedite their rebuild by bringing in a couple of talented forwards in their prime, while also dumping the final 2 years of Johnsson's contract. Laine gives them a sniper with elite scoring ability to play alongside Hughes

Columbus add a couple of talented prospects and a 2022 1st to their rebuild. They also unite the Boqvist Bros, which should endear them to Adam

New Jersey's post-trade lineup:

Laine - Hughes - Bjorkstrand
Tatar - Hischier - Sharangovich
Miles - Zacha - Bratt
Foote - McLeod - Kuokkanen

Graves - Hamilton
Smith - Severson
Siegenthaler - Subban

Blackwood
Bernier

Oh boy

Youre taking three of our top-7 assets for Laine as the best piece?

no thank you

Bjorkstrand is a very good player and signed to 5 more years...

39 goals, 80 points in his last 105 games while playing under 18 minutes a game

His numbers would almost certainly go up playing 20 minutes a game alongside Hughes

NJ just wouldnt want Laine, and why would Columbus move a guy they just signed

Perhaps , still reallly bad though :/

You're hoping Holtz and Mercer become the players Laine and Bjorkstrand already are...

New Jersey just brought in Hamilton and Graves, and with the exception of Hughes and Tatar, the rest of their forward group are between the age of 22 - 26

Laine and Bjorkstrand turn New Jersey into a legit playoff contender - which lowers the value of that pick - and they're the same age as the majority of the team's core

How do you know?

Because Bjorkstrand is a win-now piece whose prime will mostly be wasted while the Blue Jackets rebuild...

Take out Laine, Boqvist, mercer and holtz and then maybe this would make sense for both teams, tho some CBJ fans might value bjork over the mystery of what NJD’s 1st could become with bjork added or vice versa.

Laine for Mercer and this Jackets fan would be in.

But most Jackets fans are more drawn to Laine and don't know who Mercer is, so don't expect many others to share that viewpoint.

Not just some, all Jackets fans would value the best forward on their team over a mystery 1st. Bjorkstrand is still wildly underrated around here.

I don't think the Blue Jackets are tanking so I doubt they'd trade their two best forwards for futures.

What their GM would do is irrelevant to whether this trade has merit...

Are the Blue Jackets a playoff team this season? I think most would say it's unlikely...

So, their pick is likely to be in the lottery, they've got Chicago's 2022 1st, and if they made this trade they would have New Jersey's 2022 1st which could also end up in the lottery...

You add Holtz and Mercer to Werenski, Kent Johnson and Adam Boqvist... along with those 3 1st rd picks... and that's a nice foundation to which to build from for the future

I was getting at it being lottery. I would say bjorks league wide value is that of a mid 1st with a possible small+

But I would certainly not move a top 5 pick for Bjork personally which is why a NJD fan could hesitate while a CBJ fan could salivate….

If New Jersey made this trade, I wouldn't expect that pick to be anywhere near the top 5...

I originally had it top 5 protected, but figured it wouldn't matter

I think Bjorkstrand is worth more than a mid 1st...

The Leafs paid a 1st for Foligno at last year's deadline... Philly just gave up a 1st for Risto... Washington gave up a 1st & Vrana for Mantha and a cap dump
