So, it's a simple question. What do you think of the possibility for a team - or the NHL - to review a missed offside in the game? Should the possibility be kept or eliminated? It's as simple as that.

You have three votes. I'm sorry for not having another "Yes" answer but I couldn't think of anything else. This poll will be closed in 14 days at Christmas Eve.

So far it has been fine... I wouldn't want to be the guy on the coaching staff who has the task of combing over every close zone entry during the games just in case a goal ends up being scored though. That duty must suck.

No. The only egregious offside goal anyone can ever think of is that Duchene goal years ago. That's like once in 3 years thing. Linesmen do a decent enough job where any challenge ever is over a centimeter or two at most. I can live with that human error and the game would be 100% better without the review, imo.

Should've made it a simple yes or no poll imo

I vote no, get rid of it. If it was so borderline that the guy who's job it is to watch it didn't notice it, it didn't make a difference in the play. Ideally they should have a tracking chip in the puck & skates and it would automatically blow play down when it's offside.

I go even further than that in my regrets, I should've just put up a digital scale, I think it extends more in the nuiances of Yes and No. My bad. This is a crap poll, honestly. Can I change it? No, I can't. Nope! It's still not like I'm worse than a paid journalist, hehe! Still, that bothers me. That's pretty pathetic honestly.

Anyhow, I just hope "No" wins in a land slide with many votes and someone can tweet/ whisper/ fax/ email/ body hump/ *brrr*/ tweet... this poll to someone and some journalists start doing their investigations why fans seriously hate having offside reviews in the game. I know this sounds ridiculous. But...

100% yes. Wait until your team loses a big playoff game (series clincher or SCF) because of a missed offside call and then see your reaction. Leaf fans still complain about the Gretzky high stick 30 years later. Buffalo fans still complain about the "foot in the crease" 20+ years later. Your team loses the SCF on an offside goal and you'll be complaining about it forever. As someone mentioned, offside is a simple concept. There's no judgement or interpretation or anything, it's a simple yes/no review.

Even though I think rules are to be followed, no. I don't like it. Linesmen do well enough job in getting those blatant offsides. The flow of the game suffers from offside reviews.

OR what if your team loses a big playoff game because you think you've scored a big goal and it gets called back? That sounds far, far worse.

Offsides is a simple black and white rule. As such it should be reviewable if it’s missed.

It was a simple black and white thing before.

Did the linesmen say it was onside and your team scored? Celebrate!!!!!

Now it is not a black and white thing anymore.

Instead of forcing people to choose arbitrary reasons for why they like it or don't like it, why not just say "Yes/No" or "Yes/No/Maybe"?

Remove it. While we're at it, remove all the stupid tablets from the benches, and get rid of the ability of teams to communicate with whatever video review personnel off the bench that they have. The review wouldn't be so egregious if the latter recommendations were followed. The only challenges that would be issued would be blatant enough that the coach on the bench could tell in real time.

It’s still very black and white. Did the puck enter the zone before the player. Easy. Whether or not an incompetent lines men made the correct call initially shouldn’t matter. What should matter is getting the call right.

screw it, get rid of the lines all together while we’re at it

Okay great. I'll just wait a couple minutes after the puck goes in the net to start celebrating.

I'm not really sure why you think this qualifies as a response to my post.

why does it need to qualify? Thought we were getting rid of rules. Or at least, the ability to enforce, or challenge a missed call around a given rule.

No one said anything about getting rid of rules or losing the ability to enforce rules. No means of redress is offered for any number of calls and situations, yet no one is suggesting eliminating those rules either.

I feel like they are needed to some level but what we have may be to far. Maybe if it's obviously bad a spotter of sorts could flag it for officials who then review without a challenge.

I would like the offside review rule to be amended.

I don't want an offside player gaining an advantage on the rush to be able to score.

However, if the puck enters the zone slightly offside (let's say 1 inch) and a goal is scored following a 20 second forecheck and puck cycling then I would hate that to overturn the goal. I would say that the advantage gained by the offside at that point is negligible.
If the offside player gained no advantage, then not reviewable. - I'm thinking Landeskog in 2019 playoffs.

I can't review if there was a hook or interference or a trip on the play. I can't review when offsides was called incorrectly. Sometimes refs make mistakes.

Look it sucks if they miss something. I will always FUME about the obvious missed trip that led to STL goal in game 5 against Boston a few years ago. But its ridiculous to have these reviews about offsides of an inconsequential nature when if seems like we have goals almost every game where an interference or whatever that changes the play a lot more then someones skate being offside by an inch is let go, so what makes an offsides so special.

Keep reviews to if a puck crossed the line and to these "kick someone out of the game" majors.
