Alright, couldn't think of anywhere else to try to figure this out but here. Backstory: An old lady in the neighborhood where I grew up recently found this jersey in her attic and gave it to my mother knowing I was a Rangers fan. Does anyone have any idea what era/where it came from? It seems to be made of the old school cotton material. Also, AM I NOW RICH?? (kidding)

Well it's gotta be post current garden (68) with that address for Cosby's... I'd say early to mid 70's. Pretty cool, though!

Eh, you don't want that old moth-ball, mold-ridden piece of crap.

What's your paypal? Cause I'm a nice guy I'll shoot you a ten spot and take it off your hands for you. :naughty:

Are you in NY? Why not head over there to Cosbys? I bet someone there could help you.

May have been purchased at Cosby's but the Rangers didn't wear that jersey in the late 60s or 70s. Closer to WWII or even earlier.

Well, if it's supposed to be a replica of an authentic jersey from the era it was produced, then it has to be anywhere from 1951-1976. The Rangers didn't bring the drawstring back until 1997. Narrowed down to the years where Cosby's would be at 3 Penn Plaza, anywhere from 1968-1976. The problem is the number. Anytime Cosby's was at Penn Plaza, the Rangers' jerseys had the number on the sleeves. This seems to have some other logo on the sleeve, which I can't really make out. And, of course, the number is 00, so they might not have bothered.

The drawstring wasn't introduced until 1951. That Cosby's patch would have had to have been sewn on afterwards too. Not sure how common that was.

Yep, drawstrings didn't arrive until 1951. But by then, the Rangers went to lettering and numbering with a dropshadow. So it's probably a replica of the very old school jerseys (pre-WWII), with a drawstring slapped on for good measure. I can't find any iteration with that font/drawstring combo. I don't think the Rangers ever took the ice with the jersey in OP.

Yeah, somewhat of an amalgam of what was the current jersey when it was produced and an older style. Upright lettering, no drop shadow... 1945 or so... drawstring, 1951 through the introduction of the shield jersey in the mid-70s.

Anyone know what year the Rangers ditched the heavy cotton fabric? This is fun.

The Boston Bruins wore a style similar to this jersey from 1949-50 to 1957-58, with the differences being different sleeve stripe pattern and they were wool jerseys. In 1959-60 they went to this sleeve pattern style, and that was used until the end of Bobby Orr's rookie season. Right around 1961-62, durene jerseys started to appear in the NHL. Most teams started to use durene jerseys right around this time period. The NY Rangers last year wearing wool jerseys was 63-64 and in 64-65 they went to durene.

Now, is that jersey made of durene, wool, or something else entirely?

It may be a 1950/51 season jersey.

The link on this site shows that the patch on the arm may be a 25th annaversary patch. The pic also shows the neck tie.

Go to that site. then follow these links. East conf > Rangers > 1951 25th patch

Can't view the op's first image for some reason, so only going off the corner of the patch in the 3rd photo.

That's not the same patch. For one thing, they are different shapes. For another, Once I finally got the first image to load, it's clearly a "Labatt" patch.

Yep, definitely says Labatt.

Interesting Labatt's connection to this whole puzzle:

In 1951, Labatt launched its Pilsener Lager; when it was introduced in Manitoba, the beer was nicknamed "Blue" for the colour of its label and the company's support of Winnipeg's Canadian Football League (CFL) franchise, the Blue Bombers.

Coincidence that they launched a new product in 1951 AND the "Blue" or "Blueshirt" connection?
Perhaps a Replica that Cosby's produced on behalf of Labatt's?

John Davidson I think used to wear double zero. If I were to guess just off top of my head that jersey comes from the mid to late 70's. Probably 1976--Rangers 50th year.
