NHL reffing is a f***ing JOKE. And Brad Meier is the biggest piece of shit in NHL reffing. This pos was the one that turned a blind eye when debrusk enlbowed dermott busting his nose wide open, when chara blindside punched Tavares in a scrum with no call and when debrusk kneed and then wrestled kadri down and then hit marleau at the dangerous side of the glass. this f***ing pos ref didn't do anything then either and game got out of hand.

this pos ref did the same thing last night. f*** him. get him the F out of NHL
I was at game and can attest to it live .. on top of that he looked up to Jacobs box seats too .. just a paid off DUFUS

Its starting to get very difficult for me to enjoy watching NHL games lately. Blatant missed calls, one-way officiating, dirty plays not being called... then a guy turns around and cleanly lifts another players stick and it's like they can't call that a penalty fast enough. Dubois jumps on Matthews back and shoves his head into the ice repeatedly and it's called coincidental...

Worst part of it all, is that they don't even let the players sort it out themselves. They are so quick to jump on guys who are ready to Duke it out. So what happens? Knees, heads hots etc... it's really taking the enjoyment out of the game for me.

Been watching for 36 years, I've seen the league go through drastic changes...

Maybe I just need to vent, but surely I can't be the only one who feels this way. It's not just this last game either, this has been an ongoing problem for a few years now. That last game just amplified by displeasure.

Officiating in the NHL is a joke, but don't you dare tell them that.
No you're not the only one, if been harping on this inequity for years, especially towards our Buds! Some LeaFlanders suggested I get myself a tin foil hat, I laughed at their naivete then and I just smile now that some of them are seeing it too, finally.

Hockey is still the best and most enjoyable sport in the world.

Fans who have to blame the officiating every time their team loses are taking the enjoyment out of these boards.

Sandin had the puck and all four zebras had eyes on Pionk’s knee. If none of them can see it’s a penalty clear as day they shouldn’t be NHL referees. They’re either stupid or didn’t call it due to game management. Either way, f*** ‘em.

Sign up to be a ref and show them you can do better.

Every time is a problem, refs will always make some mistakes. I have a problem with this last one because of the way it was handled, majority of people want consistency not WWE as a marketing tactic.

While I personally try as hard as I can to resist all temptation to complain about the refs, I have to admit I'm getting very fed up in general. No, not just against the Leafs.

I really don't have any experience with other sports as I don't really like sports (hockey obviously is an exception), but it becomes very hard to watch when the rules are so inconsistently applied in the NHL.

Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky....

The problem is when we "adapt" and play a dirtier game, we get called lol. If that's us running a goaltender, accidental or not it's a call 10/10 times. If that's us going knee on knee, that's getting a 5 minute penalty + multiple games. I think the streak of zero suspensions for players playing against the leafs is still going strong. It's been how many years now since an opposing player was suspended for a dirty hit ? 10 ? more ?
Nah, they broke that one last year with one suspension. Before that it was 2013.

Between the gross incompetence and all the added video review/coaches challenges/offsides, yes it has taken a whole lot of enjoyment out of the game for me. I've been there for a while.

It's sickening how protected refs are. Speak out on it or question them? Fined.

Officiating is a thankless job. It's a very fast game and they can't possibly catch everything, but their inability to keep the game under control and make the obvious calls as alluded to just screams incompetence to me. It's bad league wide, not just Leafs games.

Players, GMs, coaches, management all have to face the music and answer the questions. Why don't these guys?

Referees don't have the convenience of network television's slow motion, and multiangles. They cannot slow the game down with "wait while I check all the video footage."

If there was an "eye in the sky" official to oversee the whole game, like there probably should be, then they would. Now, you don't want EVERY little ticky tack infraction reviewed...but major or obvious incidents like Pionk/Sandin and the Karlsson's puck over the boards from 5 feet inside his own blueline with ALL 4 officials looking at him in the San Jose game would be policed properly. Until that happens, however, the Brad Miers, Tim Peels and Graham Skillitors are going to continue to not be held accountable for the quality of their work...sadly.

The league has been unwilling to adapt to the rest of society. If Bettman can't ensure the sport evolves and enforces the rules, he needs to step down.

The league has grown, but one might even argue not even at the pace of other major sports on a global scale.

Hockey is indeed the best sport in the world, but that doesn't mean the NHL is necessarily the best run or regulated manifestation of it.

I don't see this as an anti-Leafs issue either ( I don't think the league or refs) it out for the Leafs as an individual team), it's a league wide issue.

Yep.

This is a league that for some reason has decided to prioritize the ability of lesser/depth players to stay out of the box rather than protect it's star players (which could be achieved by merely making proper calls as defined by the leagues own rulebook).

Other sports leagues have figured this out. Imagine the quality of the NBA if they let scrubs do what they wanted against the top talents.... A joke

Then have the 4th official sit up in a booth somewhere in front of a screen with access to immediate replays and call down to the ref on the ice when there's an adjustment to be made. If they're going to keep using video review, might as well go all the way. Having the 4th official on the ice obviously isn't making a difference.

No. Not for the sake of wrestling fans / refs vs. Leafs conspiracy.

I would have liked Matthews to give Dubois just one shot. Just plant one on him gloves on. Would have earned the penalty they were going to give him at the very least lol

I think they let the NBA lets their top players get away with too much. Kind of the reverse of the NHL. The problem is that they are not going to let a star foul out.

I think the NHL, more than anything, needs to focus more on the dangerous, dirty plays and to get rid of the game management. If they miss a trip, hook, or a high stick once in a while, I doubt anyone will care. Just keep it relatively consistent. Don't gift PP's just to even them up, and messing up that Foligno hit and the Pionk hit is never acceptable.

Near the end of a long match the Heel throws the Face into the Referee. The Ref gets knocked out cold. Because the Face is a nice guy he sees that the Ref is ok. While he's doing that the Heel hits him in the back with a folded chair. The Face falls down and the Heel covers him for the 3 count. Just then the Ref comes to and counts "1,2,3". The Heel wins and the Fans are irate booing and throwing beer cups into the ring. The Heel gets away with cheating, and the Face is robbed of the win...

The overall product feels down with the NHL. Between the reffing, off-ice issues, etc. Hockey has not had a great half-year, that much is for sure.

So you DID watch the game? You forgot the part where the face gets frustrated and plays dirty back only for the referee to suddenly start paying attention to the match again and disqualify the face while the heel hides behind the ref.

Damn, maybe the NHL really is a pro wrestling franchise.....

The thread has a sweet irony. All I see is enjoyment. Tune in tomorrow to see if the Heel finally gets his...
