Its starting to get very difficult for me to enjoy watching NHL games lately. Blatant missed calls, one-way officiating, dirty plays not being called... then a guy turns around and cleanly lifts another players stick and it's like they can't call that a penalty fast enough. Dubois jumps on Matthews back and shoves his head into the ice repeatedly and it's called coincidental...

Worst part of it all, is that they don't even let the players sort it out themselves. They are so quick to jump on guys who are ready to Duke it out. So what happens? Knees, heads hots etc... it's really taking the enjoyment out of the game for me.

Been watching for 36 years, I've seen the league go through drastic changes...

Maybe I just need to vent, but surely I can't be the only one who feels this way. It's not just this last game either, this has been an ongoing problem for a few years now. That last game just amplified by displeasure.

Officiating in the NHL is a joke, but don't you dare tell them that.

Player Safety will get Pionk for the Sandin hit.

Matthews worked pretty hard for the power play and came up with nothing. So lame.

This game was very enjoyable, I find hockey to be boring most games when there is no rough stuff. Hockey needs the rough stuff and chippiness. Mathews is a big boy and dubois is not exactly an enforcer lol. Would have been nice to see mathews get up and start feeding dubois because mathews definitely could have handled himself pretty easily

As much as I loved Wendel feeding other players his fist and scoring a bunch off that wrister , I don't want Matthews anywhere near a fight, that's how 11 million dollar players become LTIR. If that is not your normal game, stay the F away from fighting, I've seen good players blow out knees, break hands, bust fingers.

You would think but maybe he can't. I can't recall seeing him ever stand up for himself.

I just wish he was more like nathan mackinnon in that aspect, no one really roughs up mackinnon because he'll drops the gloves and they know that

NHL reffing is a f***ing JOKE. And Brad Meier is the biggest piece of shit in NHL reffing. This pos was the one that turned a blind eye when debrusk enlbowed dermott busting his nose wide open, when chara blindside punched Tavares in a scrum with no call and when debrusk kneed and then wrestled kadri down and then hit marleau at the dangerous side of the glass. this f***ing pos ref didn't do anything then either and game got out of hand.

this pos ref did the same thing last night. f*** him. get him the F out of NHL

Ref's need to be reviewed on a regular basis, and if its found that they have tendencies to 'miss' calls for any team(s) they should be banned from ref'ing those teams or fired outright, if they are not calling blatantly obvious offenses.
They would be reviewed on a regular basis.

Mac has been known to drop his gloves, he knows how to fight, AM , has been known to grow terrible moustaches... :)

Fighting is an art form, how you balance yourself, how you protect yourself, how you don't bust your hand on the guys helmet. Too much risk in having a Rocket Richard winner fight. As a fan it would be something that gets us out of our seats , I personally would love it but if Austin breaks a bone in his hand and is our for a couple of months, that fight was not worth it in the end.

Last night game was one of the most entertaining games the Leafs had played in long time.

Kudos to Spezza, Simmonds, Ritchie, Bunting and Clifford. That needs to be the normal way the team plays every night. Bring a few more guys into the fight.

Not one player in the league is afraid of taking a couple shots to the helmet before a bear hug as the refs come in to break things up.

Matthews is 6'3 215 and a fast skater, that's what people should be afraid of. Pionk should be scared any time the puck is dumped in his corner and Matthews is on the ice. Every time a Dubois messes with him, Morrissey should be shitting his pants.

It was pretty deflating seeing Matthews flung around like a ragdoll.

It has been like this for a while. The NHL is the worst pro league in sports in terms of protecting its stars and marketing them. McDavid takes a colossal amount of abuse and doesn't get enough penalties drawn. Ditto for Matthews.

Yeah I get that, my point is that Dubios cant fight either and is arguably softer than mathews. It would have been a pretty easy guy for mathews to stand up to... But I guess I also miss the old school days where hockey was alot tougher and rougher (and entertaining imo) than it is in todays game.

Ref stood right beside them watching the entire thing.

I know. It's terrible. I'm just hoping Matthews didn't try to stick up for himself because he was expecting to draw a big penalty. Hell, I didn't allow that sort of thing when I played
