I don't think he will finish the season ..
They will try to get him healthy for the playoffs.
I think he retires next year
LTIR. If he retires there is some cap recapture crap to deal with…..I think.

Muzzin out, Liljegren out, Sandin unsigned, Gio the oldest active skater in the NHL, Justin Holl forced into a top 4 role..

Leafs defense is starting out on rough ground.

You've been clear that you think this team is near league worst in every area other than their top few forwards, Mess.

So why not back up your everpresent projections with an actual projection of how the team will do this year - one that would make sense based on what you've been saying all summer in every thread?

Keefe did say yesterday not to take any of the line combos seriously for first few days.

he's lying. there's always kernels of truth in the lines.

Jack Campbell and Auston Matthews were Leafs co-MVPs last season contributing both to Leafs 115 point season and both players represented the Leafs in the All-Star game being named to the event based on their performances.

If Jack Campbell's personal stats at .914 sv% and 2.64 GAA are considered crap then we have the base line established for the new goalies to finish above this season. Wonder if Matt Murray will be named to the All-Star game coming hot out of the gate winning 15 of his first 20 games playing .750 hockey.
there is no way you think Campbell was the "co-MVP" for the Leafs... guess who got 0 Vezina votes last year? Campbell. He played terribly for the majority of the season.

You threw out .750 which I think was a 2-game sample size for Murray, and then Campbell's entire season, no motivate at all.

Outside of that 20-game stretch, he played sub .900 hockey, and in that timeframe, Murray was .912.

I know your response will be something about an all-star game (irrelevant), completely ignore playoff stats (seem to be relevant when talking about other players), and then point to injuries or a sample size that fits your narrative best.

nice. let me start speculating!

i am extremely happy to see that ZAR-Kampf-Anderson line. That means Keefe is thinking of Kampf on the "4th" line - though that's not some crappy 4th line that'll be a rare 4th line that he thinks he can use against top matchups and with heavy dzone starts. Anderson deserves a look there though when Engvall is back I imagine Kubel goes down to that 4th line or Engvall goes there to make it a true checking line.

I am surprised to see Kerf at C at first instead of Jarnkrok - I owe someone here an apology but I forget who. was it Dekes? Obviously Jarnkrok up on the top line isn't going to be a thing but him getting a look in a true scoring role right off the bat is interesting.

And Robertson-Kerfoot-Kubel(/Engvall/Jarnkrok/Nylander) would be a 3rd-line caliber line but could be used in more offensive situations than the Kampf line.

All in all that ZAR-Kampf combo right off the bat makes me happy - that move alone kind of unlocks the entire lineup.

#1: Bunting - Matthews - Marner
#4: ZAR - Kampf - NAK

Those two set in stone would be nice, and would be our toughest competition matchup lines.

and then #2 and 3 are any combos of Tavares, Nylander, Robertson, Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, Engvall which work best, with both lines able to be used in easier usage than the other two.

though now that I think of it, Engvall over NAK on that "4th" line would likely make that line even better defensively and more effective against top matchups.

Anyone know why Macay and Petruzulli aren't at camp anymore?
Neither is under an NHL contract. AHL only deals which might be an underlying factor.

MaKay also has legal issues .. The Toronto Marlies have signed suspended NCAA goaltender Dryden McKay to a two-year American Hockey League contract.

McKay was handed a six-month ban on April 18 for an anti-doping violation after leading Minnesota State University to the Frozen Four national championship game. The suspension was announced by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

The Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, say McKay will be eligible to voluntarily enter the organization’s facilities on Aug. 25 and play for the team on Oct. 11.

Lines in the 2nd group

Gaudette - Tavares - Marner
Malgin - Holmberg - Nylander

Giordano - Holl
Kral - Dahlstrom

Holmberg is getting a legit looksee I think. I like that kid.

And they really want to see whether the last two shit years for Gaudette were that injury/sickness thing.

And I'm not sure that we should be shocked at a setup of

Line 1: Matthews
Line 2: Tavares-Marner
Line 3: Nylander

at some point.

Is Murray J Jonah Jameson IRL.

Hope we get some early reviews on Murray.
