At least we have Dominic on this site, but it's too bad general-media-consuming Bruins fans don't have access to a truly great Bruins reporter, one who can develop deep sources within the organization and the greater hockey world at large and can churn out material on not only the big club but on the team's prospects all over the world. Somebody who can do what Alex Speier does at the Globe for the Red Sox, deeply researched daily stories on the team mixed with features on individual players and weekly updates on thefarm system, who's up, who's down, etc. The Globe's Bruins reporters just seem to be coasting. I wish KPD had retired four or five buyouts ago, and unfortunately Porter seems to have modeled himself on him. Too harsh?

The Boston Marathon wants to increase its visibility, so it’s switching channels.
WCVB (Channel 5) and ESPN will begin broadcasting the race with the 127th running next April 17, ending the Boston Athletic Association’s exclusive media rights deal with WBZ that began in 2007.

In a deal that will run for at least five years, ESPN will air the event live across the nation on its flagship channel from 8:30 a.m. through 1 p.m., while WCVB will begin its regional coverage at 4 in the morning and stay with the event until 8 in the evening.

Other New England stations in Manchester, N.H. (WMUR), Portland-Auburn, Maine (WMTW), and Burlington, Vermont (WPTZ) will simulcast WCVB’s broadcast, with the race also to be live-streamed on Very Local Boston.

The opportunity to have a national/local broadcast tandem in WCVB and ESPN — similar to what the New City Marathon has in place with its local ABC affiliate and ESPN — was central to BAA’s wish list when the WBZ deal ended after this April’s race.

“We were looking at renewal and we started to look at reach and just what would be the optimal scenario, and that began to bring in the domestic aspect of it,” said Jack Fleming, acting CEO of the BAA. “When we were able to find the enthusiasm and opportunity with ESPN and WCVB, that really was not something that we were able to have in recent past years.

“This is really as much about the big picture as it is about the importance of the local and the community. This brings it all together.”

Terms of the new deal, which Fleming described as “fantastic” for the BAA, were not disclosed.
“I can only say that this is the most significant broadcast arrangement in Boston Marathon history,” he said.

Both ABC and ESPN are owned by Disney.

So on the ride home, I’ve been listening to WEEI with the new Mego added to the afternoon show. I got to tell you, she is great. She brings a lot to the show. She’s hitting it out of the park IMO. What’s the opinion so far?

I don't see Audacy staying with sports on 93.7 much longer. It is an expensive format and even the Red Sox can't help them anymore.

I think the girls are going to help. Meg is great. Fresh and Keefe are brutal. I like the morning show on WEEI. It’s what we all know, 98.5 is negativity central.

Nothing is going to help WEEI.

98.5 is obnoxious but Felger and Mazz is an obvious shtick, T&R talk about random shit with sports thrown in. Zolak and Beetle are clueless about ever sport with the exception of Football and Adam Jones is pure garbage and a poser.

The good thing is that 98.5 is negative about every team in town and not just the Bruins.

You want hockey talk you either listen to T&R when Jaffe's on or wait for Saturday when the hockey Show is on from 9-11
