That 7.8 is insane, when I first saw news it was just over 300 dead, a few hours later 1,000 dead then 1,200 dead and this morning over 1,500 confirmed dead. Some of the buildings from aerial photos looks like the collapsed straight down like when the bring one down with explosives to replace it.

My thoughts are with the people in those areas.

I honestly am surprised that the initial report of dead was only 10. Of course I realized it wasn't going to stay there, but to be now over 2000....

I heard in Dr Lucy podcast that Turkey has the same building codes as US. So poor materials, shoddy construction, bad inspections could be some causes of collapse.
