Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Discussion (UPD: UHC wins 2nd Lottery, will have 4OA pick.)

I don't really care if Duchene has had a poor playoffs. If we're signing him, it's because we need him to fill the 2C hole until Desnoyers, Frondell, O'Brien, etc., is ready to fill that spot in 2-3 years.

What we'd need Duchene to do next year is help hold down the fort and get us to the playoffs. We're not going to not win the Stanley Cup next year because Duchene has a poor playoffs.

And if we don't draft a center, then trade for a young, long-term solution like Rossi.

Duchene has been poor these playoffs and he's 35 years old next year. Tavares seems hell bent on re-signing back in Toronto. I would trade it for immediate but long term help at the center position.
Larkin I doubt very much is available. Horvat is too old for him to be considered long term help, and Barzal who I think you mentioned, would be nice, but does he not have injury issues. I'm just not sure if this is the year to surrender a top 5 player + in the draft. Utah is not SC contender.

I like Brzustewicz in the 2nd round, but I don't think he'll be there at 46. I wonder if Washington at 37 or Seattle at 38 would be interested in trading down to 46 for a 3rd round pick this year or next year. Seattle is missing their 3rd round pick this year and Washington is missing theirs next year.

Hagens is only 3 months younger than Iginla. It's fairly reasonable to think he could play in the NHL after one more season at BC, depending on how the season goes.

I just wonder about having a Cooley-Hagens combination at center.

Desnoyers is such an obvious fit. Like a glove. I had been assuming Chicago would take him, but there seems to be a lot of buzz around Frondell to Chicago.

Frondell and McQueen are also great options for Utah and I expect at least two of these three will be picked before Hagens.

I like Desnoyers or Frondell depending on which way Chicago goes.

But I also think Martone fits what they've been building. While I really hope they pick a center, I could certainly understand the logic in taking Martone.

Chicago could trade back a few OA picks later, say with Philly, who may like Desnoyers a lot and is willing to give up an asset to do it.
Waiting for the combine to see how "big" the tier is that 's after the expected 1st 2 selections. A RW and a run of centers in that tier. Curious to see how Jake O'Brien does during the combine. It's because of his late birthday (in 2 weeks) and how McQueen looks after being injured during part of the past season.

If there was a draft year to trade a top pick it's this year. Looks like a the weakest draft class in years. Frick I would trade 1st over all. Hard part will be finding buyers.

Desnoyers or Frondell fit the mold. Martone too but he is a winger.

Hagens is interesting. Being the best player from the USDT program is a plus. Arguably the best youth hockey development in the world.

Hagens' vision and passing are absolutely unreal. If he was on Buffalo, my other team, he would instantly be the best playmaker as an 18 year old. I'd take him at 3. Then Martone. Then Desnoyers. Then Frondell. Don't think Frondell will ever play C in the NHL and will be a wing. Think McQueen doesn't have the hockey IQ or passing to thrive.
