Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Discussion (UPD: UHC wins 2nd Lottery, will have 4OA pick.)

Pronman says Utah has had like 5 scouts watching Desnoyers during the playoffs. I think Chicago probably takes him but Utah would if they get a chance.

I would think all the teams picking at or near the top will have scouts at most games looking at these players.

My guess is Schaefer/Misa go between isles and sharks with Martone going to Chicago. Only thing that would change that from my read on it as a Sharks fan would be if the Islanders go off the board and take Hagens at which point I feel like Chicago would take Misa and Utah should/would take Martone

We will draft some Russian who could be had in the second round... I kid I kid.. I truly believe we will trade the pick. If we didn't announce our team name we would of kept the pick bit my gut says the pick is in play.

Why do you think the team name matters or has to do anything about the pick?

I think Martone is far from a lock for top 5. Certainly in the mix, but not a lock.
Areas for Improvement:
  • Consistency: Lapses in focus and discipline can impact his overall game.

  • Defensive Play: He needs to continue developing his defensive play.

  • Decision-Making: While he's a skilled playmaker, his decision-making can sometimes be inconsistent.

  • Skating: For his size, Martone's skating has room for improvement

Another thing I'm reading often is that labelling Martone a power forward is wrong.

I already said that I don't want a W, I want a C, and Martone does not excite me enough to be a guy we take over a C. I keep hearing stuff that makes it sound like he's got more issues to work out than I'd like from a 4OA. Rather have Desnoyer, Hagens, or Frondell.

I trust our scouting department to make a good pick either way.

Seems more likely that they wanted to get the name and merchandise out there as soon as possible. Merchandise out on the streets/on fans is a solid form of marketing to grow the sport in Utah. Why wait? Besides, a draft day reveal would get buried amongst all the other excitement draft day brings, IMO.

The 4OA is definitely in play. I'm sure every GM in the league has made it known that their pick is available for the right price. The right price rarely materializes so they end up making the pick. I expect the same with will happen here.

Top 10 picks are rarely traded. Couldn't find stats on top 5 picks but obviously that happens even less.

Utah waited a year to pick a name.

In Chris Peters' interview with Belle he summed it up quite well.
With the org's focus on scouting and the proven strength of their scouting staff it's gonna be hard to trade the pick. If they do trade it, it'll be for immediate help. Won't trade the pick for a prospect or move down.

Can't see him trading it either for that reason.

Pettersson for 4 OA and Crouse. Would be hard to get now that they moved on from Miller. Maybe 4OA and Hayton?

Some how I am yelling about this trade lol.

I wonder if we put a package together for Tage Thompson

Depends on Buffalo’s intentions this offseason, and I don’t really have a read on what I think they might do. A package involving 4th overall going their way and Tage Thompson coming back our way, with whatever’s necessary to include to balance value out, may simply be a trade they’re not interested in making because it’s not a direction they want to head into.

If they do want to pull the plug and start over, we could surely come up with something to entice them, which would be a tough pill to swallow after so many years in a row of not making the playoffs. If that’s not their vision going forward, I don’t think we make good trading partners with Buffalo.
