Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Discussion (UPD: UHC wins 2nd Lottery, will have 4OA pick.)

Hey y’all, Isles fan coming in peace. Congrats on winning the lottery! Wondering if you’d be open to dealing the pick? Probably anything off the NHL roster but Barzal and Sorokin would be on the table
Congratulations to you too!
We'd be looking for a young blue chip forward, preferably a C. Maybe rewind the clock on Horvat by 5 years and you'd have exactly what we're looking for.
I think we'll probably be best served using the pick to get that young blue chip C.

Frondell has all the qualities and skillset to potentially be a top line, impactful centreman in the NHL that can put up 60-70 points as a two-way pivot. Worst case scenario being a second line centre. He can be a threat at five-on-five and on the power play when he has ample space to shoot to create a play.

ah yeah, we do not possess that. I was hoping we could interest you in something like Dobson + Bednarik or Nelson.

I’d be ok to trade Ritchie too, but something closer to Ritchie + Avs 2026 + something. not sure if it makes sense to you, but isles might slightly overpay to come away with the best prospect + the LI native

Sounds like the type of player that doesn't cheat the game. Might be an option for us at #4. I bet every Utah fan is a lot more excited for the draft now.

I feel like getting lucky with this lottery is the final turning point in moving past this franchise bad luck of the past. I truly can say I've never been more optimistic of future of this team then I am now. We are so close to be a perennial playoff team. Being an consistent Stanley Cup contender would be nice, but after watching all the exciting stuff happen in round one this year, I just so desperately want watch my team in the playoffs.

We really are close to being a perennial perianal (pain in other team's asses for years to come.)

4.) Utah Hockey Club: Caleb Desnoyers, C, Moncton (QMJHL)

Utah may not have gotten up to the top two due to lottery rules preventing a team from moving up more than 10 spots, but this win still brings them into a totally new tier of prospects than they would have been picking from otherwise. Desnoyers is a big, two-way center who was one of the top scorers in the QMJHL this season. He’d make for a strong complement to Logan Cooley in Utah’s long-term top six, joining what’s already a strong farm system. — Max Bultman

"Big"
"Two-way"

BA's favorite things. :D

First mock draft I've seen has us taking Hagens.

C
5'11"
176lbs.

"A solid, reliable leader who at worst feels like an incredible third-line center. There might be some questions about Hagens’ size, but he plays bigger than his frame and offers huge upside as a locker room culture builder."

NHL mock draft 2025: Instant projection after lottery determines order

Not the most exciting player description I've ever read. Especially about a potential top 5 pick.
Doesn’t that sound a bit like Beaudoin?

Edit: I see @jormungandr says he is better compared with Keller.

James Hagens couldn’t be further from Cole Beaudoin. He’s a slightly below average sized, skill center who might project more as a winger at the NHL level. Claude Giroux as another comparable? I think it was Button who even mentioned Cooley as a comparable.

Simashev, Butt, a top 4 pick, Iginla, Doan, and Beaudoin added to your top line, Sergachev, Durzi, Marino, and Kesselring? Damn, that is a lot of talented youth!

Talk about ending the rebuild with a bang! Now all you need is more seats in the arena! Soon enough!

Happy for you guys, and happy to stay top two!

I don’t see BA taking him with so many bigger Centers available…. But you never know .. he also like NCAA

Excited to watch the QMJHL finals now, Desnoyers has been on fire in the playoffs along with Utah prospect Gabe Smith who was drafted 4th round last season.
Assuming it goes Schaefer, Misa, Hagens 1-2-3, I would take Desnoyers at 4th but I am also biased. I think he has the potential to be a bigger and better playmaking version of Anthony Cirelli. The perfect all-situations 2C and coaches dream. UHC will have seen him lots as well while tracking Gabe Smith - who BTW is blowing my mind with his improvement level this season. He's developed a scoring touch seemingly out of nowhere and there's nobody that can handle him physically in junior right now. Skating is still a project but at 6'5 and probably 215lbs at 18 years old you have to expect that. They are both also benefitting from having perhaps the best coach in the world that's not in the NHL.

Interesting: a lot of NYI fans really pulling for Hagens ( because he’s from Long Isle) can you imagine the repercussions of that?

Can’t see it happening unless they trade down.. but why would you with Schaffer and Miss available

NYI need offense and Sharks need Defense, so I could see a trade between those two or if NYI like Misa more than Schaeffer...but supposedly Schaeffer is a lock for #1

I think there a lot of possibilities - I'd even consider trading our #4 pick to the Islanders plus more stuff if we could get Barzal
Oh man that guy really passes the eye test

Who could we possibly give up to grab him ?

Also I wonder if NYI goes for him instead of Schaffer

Didn't watch this last night, woke up to see some really good news.

2C need should be solved. One more top 4D in the next few years and this roster should be set.

Good luck BA!
