Maybe my evaluation skills are way off here but in what world is Danny Jansen getting you anything close to Reynolds?

Yeah, I'm maybe the biggest Jansen fan around, but Jansen for Reynolds straight-up is less "difficult to say no to" and more "immediately say yes and file the paperwork before Cherington comes to his senses and realizes what a horrible trade he just made".

It depends for me on how highly Pittsburgh values Jansen. Reynolds for Jansen straight up would be very difficult to say no to. Reynolds for Jansen and a valuable piece I wouldn't do.
As other people said, in no world is Jansen getting you Reynolds. It would take a massive piece added. 4 years remaining, 6.5 WAR last year lol.

The reason I wouldn't want to do Jansen is because as much as I like Kirk's bat, I don't think the defense is there to be a primary catcher. I think you're gutting the defense to arguably the most important position and going to be forced to use McGuire a lot more than if you had Danny here. Not to mention I assume Kirk has more value being younger, more control, better hitter, etc.

In the only one where Danny Jansen is available :)

It's supply and demand. Reynolds will be available because Pittsburgh. We might honestly prefer to deal both McGuire and Kirk before Jansen.

According to Baseball Trade Values Reynolds has more surplus value than Kirk, Groshans, Gurriel, Teo, and Pearson combined.

Great player, great fit. Really expensive in a trade I would guess.

Brock Holt requests release from the Braves. Has had a great spring, lefty bat, Jays were after him more than once before and is a plus defender everywhere except for SS and 3B.

No pitcher limit for April, but reverts to 13 on May 2 (as does roster down to 26). Doubleheader still adds a spot in April.

He's pretty bad now, but if they want to make him this year's Panik/Sogard/whoever on a minor league deal, then sure!

I don't think Reynolds goes anywhere. That's probably just AJ Preller on another coke fueled trade/call bender.

Pittsburgh will (rightly) demand a king's ransom for him and no one will want to pay it. In the Padres case it starts with Abrams+. No chance they do a deal with that.

Baseball Trade Values is the best.

Kirk and our entire farm system except Moreno and Martinez is roughly equal value to Reynolds

Do we just sign a bunch of guys to play AAA Buffalo with Moreno and Martinez and just let Pittsburgh use New Hampshire, Vancouver, and Dunedin as their affiliates for a while after we make that trade?

So, Palacios or Lukes?
I've been banging this drum all spring but Lukes slashing .337/.387/.533 against righties in AAA last year has had me quite intrigued. Palacios hasn't really had a season that impressive despite being only a year younger.

I would be more open to giving Fowler the benefit of the doubt because despite his recent struggles and injuries, his splits are still salvageable for what we need. I was just shocked to find out how much fangraphs and BRef absolutely hate his defence. I've been hoping for an extra OF that doesnt force us to use Tapia in CF but apparently Fowler isn't that solution.

No, we trade either Teo or LGjr to replenish it.

Reynolds is a bit of a double-edged sword. He's young and has 4 years of control, while being one of the best CF in baseball (with growth, could literally be the best), but he also only has 348 MLB games, was a former 9th prospect in their system and the next biggest threats in their lineup are O'Neill Cruz and Daniel Vogelbach. That's likely largely baked into the 3.8 WAR projection for him by FGDC.

Jansen is actually projected for 2.4, but it is assuming a near 50/50 catching split (and FG uses a ridiculous method where catchers only get credit for 640PA as a whole while every other position gets 700 for comparison), where on another team Danny would be 3.2WAR if he got 500PA (cleared by 3 catchers last year). And that's for last year's Danny (105wRC+).

Again, I'm not expect 196wRC+ from Danny (his last 30 games), but Danny was 20th in fWAR despite being sub-replacement level for the first 40 games of the season. He's also a top 10 defensive catcher in baseball (Reese is top 5).

I would give up a lot for Reynolds, but I personally believe that Danny has a lot more value than people give him credit for (I value him significantly above Kirk because he is a good defender who has shown glimpses that he can hit).

Which does Ohtani count as?

If we put Borucki in LF for 1 inning in a blowout can we count him as a position player?

This means if we go 4 Bench/10 Pitchers until May then 2 pitchers have to go down then. So if we go 3 catchers to start the year it likely won't change in a month

It's a 15 day DL as of May 2 (for everyone).

The 10 day DL is only for pitchers (and is only until May 1)

Huh? I'm not talking about the DL portion of that tweet at all. The 13 pitcher limit once May 2nd hits. That will limit teams to an 8 man pen. Do the Angels essentially get an extra pen arm because one of their starters is also a hitter, and if so what prevents other teams from pretending one of their pitchers plays the outfield to scam the system?

Where do we think Adam Kloffenstein goes to start the minor league season. If it's Vancouver again he' might end up double checking his contract to make sure he didn't sign a contract with the Vancouver Canadians by mistake. He was drafted 4 years ago, he's pitched an entire 2 innings for someone other than Vancouver.

The first time it was a promotion obviously with Vancouver becoming 2 levels higher. But if he goes back there it might feel weird like he hasn't been promoted his entire career. I guess last year playing in Hillsboro would be a different feeling despite wearing the same jersey

Probably Vancouver, yeah. I doubt they would move him down a level, but there's no way he deserves to be at AA after the year he had in 2021.
