TORONTO — The Blue Jays made a trade late Thursday, acquiring outfielder Bradley Zimmer from the Guardians for reliever Anthony Castro.

Zimmer adds to Toronto’s outfield depth ahead of the club's Opening Day game on Friday, bringing another left-handed bat into the organization as the Blue Jays work to balance out a righty-heavy lineup.
Castro, on the other hand, was left on the outside looking in at the Blue Jays’ bullpen picture as they broke camp.

The 29-year-old Zimmer, a 2014 first-round Draft pick (21st overall) by Cleveland, is a familiar name to the Blue Jays’ front office. He came up as one of the top outfield prospects in the game, too, peaking as the No. 22 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline prior to the 2017 season.

“He brings speed,” manager Charlie Montoyo said prior to Friday’s season opener. “He brings defense in the field, which is something that’s going to help us a lot, and he can pinch-run.”

...................

“I was talking to one of the coaches I know from Cleveland,” Montoyo said, “and he said this guy has the talent to be a really good ballplayer, so maybe the change of scenery will help him out, too.”

Kind of thought Espinal might get the start today, but I guess he got half the game yesterday so he's already had some action. But not surprised Kirk is starting day after a night game with Ryu going tomorrow. Figured they'd DH an outfielder to get Tapia in there as well.

Yeah, we know Montoyo likes to get everyone into a game early, so I think we'll see a couple days of shuffling around before things settle in.

Springer, Hernandez and Gurriel Jr. should be playing every day. No need to rest one of them in game 2. Kirk can catch, Biggio can DH, Espinal 2B.

Gausman is the one guy on the staff i'm worried about. He had a pretty blah second half but flew under the radar because of his first half being so good he was still in Cy Young conversation.

You should have seen his ST start

Montoyo is known to want to get guys in there early. I could see Katoh and Collins/Zimmer having to wait a bit to get in there, but as the 4th outfielder who might play twice per week as they move the DH around it was fairly obvious he was going to want to get Tapia in there this weekend so this game makes the most sense.

I would have liked to see Espinal get the start, but I don't think Biggio at DH is much better than Gurriel at DH and Tapia in LF.

I could see Montoyo doing that and he probably will, I just prefer Biggio because he only got 1 AB yesterday I think.

I don't mind Montoyo putting guys in the DH position already. Jays have a lot of games with little rest.
Definitely. With the season as condensed as it is, rotating them through the whole year makes a lot more sense than waiting until they start to show signs of getting tired and then giving them time off.

Kinda feel bad for her because she was pushed down the stairs by some idiot, but she shouldn't have punched anyone let alone a cup. I just don't get what is so fun about getting drunk? I am assuming she was drunk there. Just an idiot. Potentially going to have a criminal record just because she decided to get drunk and act like an idiot. We also don't know why she was being escorted down. Just sad all around.
