Is Correa on a short-term deal with opt-outs or even a medium-term deal with multiple opt-outs out of the question?

He’s only 27 and he’ll still be able to get a $200+ million contract at 30.

Come get a real ring in Toronto with Springer, Correa.

Sounds like he already has a 10/300 offer on the table. It’s the O’s, but 300m is 300m.

Ah yes, a typical free agency period where the almighty, infinite wallets of the *checks notes* ...Colorado Rockies and Baltimore Orioles rule the land

You know something has gone horribly wrong where the Angelos family is willing to dish out that type of cash.

no way he does that imo, and a big hell no to anything even close to 10 years lol, for seager i would have done it, not for this guy.

Why? Seager has injury concerns too and he’s nowhere near as good as Correa is defensively. Correa is by all accounts the best two-way shortstop in baseball.

There are many who feel Chapman’s bat is ready to rebound another year removed from the procedure to repair a torn hip labrum as well as clean up other damage.

Despite that injury, Chapman has only been on the IL three times in his career, also missing a handful of games with a thumb bruise and a knee injury.

“He’s so well-rounded and such a good player with such a good track record,” Atkins said. “He’s extremely durable. He’s just played constantly and he’s always making an impact. Last year, we saw him a good bit and I didn’t want to see him hitting.”

Even though Chapman only hit .210 and struck out 32.5 per cent of the time in 2021, he was still worth 3.4 fWAR thanks to that glove.

“I still feel like he’s a very viable offensive threat,” Atkins said. “A big-time threat on both sides of the ball, and that’s hard to find.”

It’s easy to envision 30-plus homers and a whole lot of runs driven in, as Chapman will likely slide into the five or six hole in the lineup and see a whole lot of ducks on the pond.

His ability to work a walk could mesh well around free swingers like Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez.

“It really is a good complement,” Atkins said. “The plate discipline, the power, I think he’s going to thrive in our lineup.”

Solidifying the hot corner allows the Jays to mix-and-match at second base with left-handed hitting Cavan Biggio and righty Santiago Espinal, but both will appear at multiple spots, with Espinal also serving as the backup shortstop on the rare occasion Bichette needs a day off.

In exchange for two years of Chapman, who’s controlled through the 2023 season and estimated to make $9.5 million in arbitration for 2022, the Jays had to pay up in the form of 2021 first-round pick Gunnar Hoglund, infielder Kevin Smith, left-handed starter Zach Logue and lefty reliever Kirby Snead.

It’s a reasonable price for a team pushing to win a World Series, but Hoglund is a terrific prospect with not only pretty high floor but a big ceiling as well.

Once he recovers from Tommy John surgery this summer, the Ole Miss right-hander’s stock is likely to be on the rise over the next couple of years as a potential fast-mover for Oakland’s rotation.

In total, the deal removes prospects No. 5 (Hoglund), No. 9 (Smith) and No. 22 (Logue) from the Jays’ system.

Moving forward, there’s still enough in the system for Atkins to engineer another blockbuster, potentially in July at the trade deadline, if something presents itself.

I'd be curious to see what the Astros are offering Correa. We've heard they're offering him something but nothing has come out terms/dollars.

For how stalled it's been for him i don't think he's going to do better than the O's offer.

Perhaps the most disgusting thing is Baltimore would still have a bottom 5 payroll in the league even if this deal comes to fruition.

i just think correa is mediocre offensively, seager clearly isnt as good defensively but is way better at the plate imo and that is very important to me me as you could probably shift seager to DH or a corner outfield spot and still have his bat if he doesnt work at SS, both have injury concerns and if i had the choice i wouldnt give either that contract but if we signed seager i would have been ok with it. correa not so much, just my opinion.

i think bo will be better than correa before long as an all around player.

There was a 1 x 45 rumor at one point

Some sad news

My goodness, if COVID wasn’t bad enough...it seems like the number of announcements of diagnoses just like these have exploded as well. 😟

Wishing Jamie all the best. He’s one of the good ones. May he be blessed with strength and good health as he deserves to hop on and enjoy what is going to be this wild ride as much as anyone.

gives them ample time to see if biggios 1st year was the abberation, or last year was. he really could rebound into a very valuable player, and only 26.

Yep it's actually a great opportunity to give Biggio an extended look without moving him around the field, and also see what Espinal can do as some additional depth. That combo at second base is worth a look if the trade of FA market doesn't have anything sensible out there.

ye, and with chapman addition i believe that bo will be positioned closer to 2b to help up the middle defensively, which is nice. this trade definitely changed the landscape for everyone in the infield for the better. right now, IF biggio is a disaster, you have lots of time to figure it out.

It could be a calming thing mentally, like when they committed to Vladdy playing 1st last year, for Biggio to have a set position and he can focus on that.

Ameen! Thought and prayers with him. Seems like a genuinely good dude!

“Imagine trying to swing a bat with a sore f***in hip” was also said during this. Truer words can not be said. Absolutely stoked on this acquisition. Tough not to see Donaldson parallels. His homerun totals are going to go way up playing at Rogers
Pretty much what I said recently and what I think is the reason for his dip...hips are kinda important turning on the ball. expecting him to rebound to 250-260 range and 40+ hrs. Also those WAR projections are very low, if healthy he'll be a 5+ WAR guy both years

That's a damn good trade for both Toronto and Cleveland. Atkins is gonna get his guy in Ramirez whether it be tomorrow or come trade deadline. I was so wrong about Shapiro and Atkins. What they have built is mind blowing in the time they have been here.

What's nice about getting Chapman is the only major hole is filled. The other areas of weaknesses can wait until a good deal comes along,

Barring a change that I don't envision happening anytime soon Conforto isn't much good to us when he can only play in less than half the games.
