Depending on the type of package that you need to put together for Ramirez, there will an effect on the long-term sustainability of the Jays as a contender. If you trade away Groshans/Martinez for Ramirez, you necessitate signing a free agent in 2 seasons (or re-signing Chapman and Ramirez) because you are trading away the logical internal replacements for Chapman and Ramirez. Trading Moreno could remove 2-3 WAR from the catching position for the next several years (rough equivalent to the upgrade of JRam from Biggio/Espinal). Additional premium free agent signings are also going to eat into ability to retain Vlad and Bo.

I don't doubt that getting Ramirez would improve the World Series odds for the next 2 seasons, but it also likely decreases them significantly for the following 3-5 years. I don't think Biggio and Espinal at 2B are enough of a weakness to need to upgrade.

Putting on my insider hat;

When asked who looks the best showing up to camp on Overdrive moments ago, Atkins said Espinal.

So I think we are either keeping him or talking him up to trade him.

You’re welcome.

So we are not releasing him?

That is a relief. I was scared there for a moment.

Sorry for derailing the infielder train -- but would love to see the Jays sign one of Kenley Jansen (98.6% chance he's re-signing with Dodgers), John Curtiss, Trevor Rosenthal, or Richard Rodriguez.

The bonus of signing Jansen is keeping him away from the Dodgers

Jansen would look good at the end of the bullpen but jaya have a lot of options. Now they arnt high end though. Health permitting this is probably the pitchers opening day:berrios, gausman, ryu, manoah, kikuchi, stripling, cimber, garcia, mayza, merryweather, richards, romano. So thay leaves room for 1 more pitcher. These guys have to fight for 1 spot: vazquez, thornton, saucedo, pearson, kay, hatch, castro, biagini, phelps. I assume kay, thornton and hatch will be triple a starters. No idea what the plan is for pearson.

Yeah, but they'd likely sign the next best guy with their McDuckian vault. Will be interesting to see if they go into the Cohen bracket.

Focus right now should be on getting the best players money can buy and then sort out the rest through trades/waivers. Too many question marks in the bullpen for my liking.

Would love to take a run at Hader (and the Brewers could a C)

I'd love to see Espinal get an extended look but i'm not sure if that even works.

Right now he's slotted in to split time with Biggio at 2nd. If J-Ram comes in at some point, he becomes even less likely to get time there.

His two natural spots are blocked off between Bo and now Chapman coming into town. I don't see a scenario where he isn't packaged off in a trade somewhere. His defensive ability is ridiculous and his bat looked like it made improvements last year too.

Definitely will be rooting for him on the chance he does get moved.

Barring another big move, the DH spot remains open for shuffling guys around. Between that and playing 2B against lefties (not to mention any injuries on the infield), I think Espinal will probably get plenty of playing time.

I think Espinal is best used in a utility role. He's a fairly good hitter and his defense is awesome and he can play multiple positions well.

If we get Ramirez it makes sense that they’d want Kirk in a deal. That would open DH to be a rotation. Biggio would rotate 2B, 3B, LF, RF and Espinal would rotate 3B, SS, 2B. Lots of AB available.

Do it Atkins!

If his muscle allows his barrels to go further but he keeps the take every cheap hit he can get approach, he will do well.

If he changes approach, he will basically become a generic backup.

7. Gabriel Moreno
38. Orelvis Martinez
80. Jordan Groshans

Austin Martin is ranked 52nd. Smith, SWR and Hoglund are not ranked.
