He has no legitimate sources and imo it’s embarrassing that he has the following that he does.
Embarrassing to who??

The dude puts out a ton of Sabres content, a lot of it backed up with data. He has media credentials and is sometimes on the radio. My point is he doesnt just have a following because everyone takes what he says as gospel. He has more access than the average person and spends a lot of time on his opinions.

I don't believe or agree with everything he says, of course, but when he claims to have a source for some Sabres trade news, I see absolutely ZERO downside to hearing it and thinking about it. Similar with other jockey rumors.

This stuff isn't like reporting on the government or science, etc. where we SHOULD absolutely scrutinize reporting and hesitate to incorporate unsubstantiated reports into our worldview. This is all fun and games! Even if Chad's a total liar... oh well! Who cares?

Agreed all around.

it’s not that hard to fall into having a guy. It’s just that sometimes that guy isn’t the kind of decision maker that knows 100% what’s up

All it takes is being around the rink a bit and being in conversation with people - which thanks to the interwebz is fairly easy now.

Put it this way. Maybe “following” was too loose of a term. The part that is a joke to me is the fact that the undisputed Mainstream radio station for sports in the market portrays him as a legitimate insider. Even so far as to have him as a guest on flagship programming.

They employee Paul Hamilton to do their hockey coverage. hes less plugged in and works less hard than Chad. You want to be mad start there.

That would be a great place to be upset. It's actually refreshing to have people who are passionate about being around events and looking to talk about them and learn new things. Chad is stat-side what Bakes is prospect-side. And the radio station employs someone who is not engaged much at all. Like, having someone turn up for 2 hours of the Combine and then act like he was there? That's ridiculous.

deals are also fluid based on what's happening around the league, what isn't happening around the league, how good of a mood someone is in, what a GM had for breakfast, etc. very serious talks about one trade or another can be real intense one day and completely die the next. the only time you will ever hear about a deal that's guaranteed is when a guy like pierre lebrun or whoever else gets tipped off about paperwork submitted to the league office.

I was just reminded that right after we traded Ristolainen the Rangers traded Buchnevich for a 2nd and a plug. Buchnevich scored 30 goals and was over a ppg.

we should call Drury. Or Fletcher.

I don’t even know for what. I just feel good about it working out.

I dont want anyone within reason from that team just out of spite or their fanbase on here. Keep your team and keep losing.

Call Fletcher and ask for his second rounder. Offer Bjork and a stale bag of Cheetos.

I can't help but wonder if Philly's first this year was ever on the table, instead of last year's at the time of the Risto trade

Olofsson is a fascinating case to me. I think they’re caught in a value trap where they cant get enough value in trade to justify moving him but hes too good to let go cheap. I think their best case scenario is to buy a couple UFA years and hope he is what he was after he recovered from injury last year and his value goes up to match what they want. I think if he hadn’t gotten hurt and produced like he did when he was healthy over the whole year they’d get what they are looking for.

I think they're safe in extending him for 3 yrs, ending the summer of 2025. That summer is when Quinn and Peterka will need new contracts. I know Dahlin and Power will be due the summer of 2024, but between Okposo being retired and the cap limit going up a bit, we should be fine.

As these young guys start getting paid we won’t be worrying about the cap floor.

Take it for what it's worth, but Buffalo listed under the "Linked to" lists for Husso & Marchment

There are a handful of guys on that list that would be great. I'd like to see us add at least one UFA forward to give us a little more depth, create internal competition, etc. Obviously Husso would be great. 👌

I wouldn't mind a few on there. ERod is one interesting name, he could do well in Tampa.
