Julien Brisbois quoted in saying it is unlikely Tampa will be signing Isaac Howard and he will be going back to Michigan State next year. Sweeney better be in on him. He's a great overall offensive player. Can skate, dish and shoot. Has swagger, too.

That game against Cornell in the regionals was epic...and while Michigan ST was on the losing end, the fact Howard is hungry to go back and win a title for Michigan St says a lot about his loyalty to his teammates.

He could easily turn pro next year, but he's going after a national title, scoring title and a 2nd Hobey Baker.

He's the perfect target for Sweeney.

Seems more like these things are happening as a silver lining on his desire to maximize his negotiating position.

I support free markets and am not rooting against him. I just don’t think we need to paint him a hero.

Fine. I will break it down into terms the most boring CFO would appreciate.

Howard is a former 1st round draft pick with pedigree and has been productive at Michigan St,

Howard won a Hobey Baker over players like Zeev Buium, Ryan Leonard, Jimmy Snuggerud. He's a little older, but appears NHL ready.

The Bruins prospect pool is bare and this draft isn't going to impact that reality any time in the next two years, as it relates to NHL talent.

Sweeney has gone on record saying he is looking at every possible avenue to improve the roster.

They have cap space.

Can't harm the kid for going after the $$$.

I realize we are all butthurt about Swayman...especially after his performance, but Howard won't demand $8M+ on the cap either.

For me, I'm watching how the Foote hiring goes down in Vancouver and his thoughts on Pettersson. If the Canucks cannot get 1-2 top six players in a trade then I'd be offering them a package that Foote would like for Pettersson.

RFAs: Cuylle, Knies, MacTavish

UFAs: Bennett, Tavares(yup, on a short-term with something to prove), Duchene (same as Tavares) and even Granlund on a short deal.

Trades: Pettersson, Larkin (Bruins heavily scouted him and Geekie before that off-season and got Geekie already), Hertl, Huberdeau (yes, I'd circle back on him given his last year).

I could be wrong but wouldn't still be restricted to the rookie cap?

I’d offer the Leafs first….love Howard

Actually I’d find out thru the grapevine is Eichel isn’t signing an extension and would like to center Pastrnak rest of his career in his hometown

Bruins trade 7OA, another 1st, Mittelstadt, and Poitras for Jack

8/100 ~ 12.5 M cap going up and subtraction of Mitts $5.25 M or thereabouts basically 1/2 Eichel contract

Geekie plays the Krushnelynski, Hyman, riding shot gun

Lindholm plays 2C & Zacha wing if Minton can handle 3c

Parade route known

Problem here is cap space doesn't help the Bruins in this situation. He can only be signed to an ELC, at under a million. Sure there are bonuses but I think those are even standard

Ultimately it is up to Tampa to decide whether they are willing to trade him. If they are will they be willing to trade him to a divisional rival? Given the attributes their may be other teams out there who are willing to bid as much or more than Boston might be able to

Guys if you look at Marner and Rantanen these playoffs and don't immediately decide to pay Marner more to be here, you may just not be ready for the GM spot in Boston.

The problem is if you want to improve you team in Free Agency Rantenen is not available. You can try to get Marner, or you can try to get less valuable players and pay them less than Marner, but still in some cases huge money (Boeser).

Rantenen chose to take less money than he would have gotten on the free market to sign in Dallas

I have found your analysis of Pettersson absolutely illuminating.

And I still want no part of him.

He has 1 shot on net in 3 games.

Playoffs
Rantanen 2024/25: 12GP - 9G
Marner 2018/25: 55GP - 10G

But he kills penalties my guy!

When the going gets rough, you want a soft unclutch low volume shooter eating up 15% of your total cap to get in there and kill a big penalty! Players like this are not usually able to get to free agency. But SOMEHOW, this one might. Somehow.

I was not saying it was an advantage or not. I mean to at least call out that Cap would not be a barrier of entry for Howard to BOS. But lets be serious. 1st round ELC's plus bonus impact the cap.

I wonder about other teams outbidding BOS. I seriously think Boston is perfectly situated to get him. With the exception of the Bruins 7OA coming up next month and next year's BOS 1st rounder, I am 100% fine with moving TOR 1st+ or a combo of other picks to bring in Howard.

Get on the horn, Don.

Watching Sweden game ~ Elias with all 3 goals in game all off rush and wrist shots between 10-20 feet….natural hat trick.

Nice playing with guys like Brodin, Carlsson, Forsberg, Raymond, Petterson etc

Actually smiles

Good his value is up, now maybe he will waive his no trade, and we can move on from him, now if only we can do the same with the "market setter"

I figured as much. I also know several on here who were also opposed to obtaining the following players due to their performances and rumoured character traits:

Monahan
Bennett
DuBois
Reinhart
Miller
Strome
Perry

...and then clamour and complain about the Bruins inability to find top six talent. While I'm not directing it at you personally, I will never hesitate to put forward West Coast players that are potentially elite level talent that can be traded for.

I wanted Bennett, Perry and Miller. Just saying.

Last 11 games with Pasta 5 G 6 A 11 points 11 +

I’m not moving
HAHA ......You are not but I am, you maybe happy with 11 games, but I am not looking forward to 6 more years of a third liner playing on the first line. That contract never should have been.
