The biggest obstacle on a Votto trade is likely his NTC.

You never know with players, but he's from Toronto, nearing the end of his career and never really approached a championship, and his team has already thrown in the towel on contending basically for the rest of his time there. I could see him accepting.

What a day so far. If the Ramirez trade happens, the internet is going to break!

I think it's still wishful thinking, so does Votto or Joc Pederson make sense?

In all honesty and seriousness, would we even want Votto considering his age and contract if he weren't from Toronto? I'm not the least bit convinced.

Three or four years ago when that chat was brewing it might have made more sense. Now it seems pointless/unnecessary/unneeded.

He was a 3.6 fWAR 1B last year, hits left, and could actually uptick in Toronto as a DH.

I actually wouldnt mind Votto as a full time DH since he is only under control for 2 more years and his patient left handed bat is exactly what we need. Also the cheap Reds likely would give him away if we were willing to eat all the money so it would be a win win move.

This is exactly why you build up a deep prospect pool. The Jays could deal from it and they still have a good system.

Here is the cost for 8.5 years of Berrios and 2 years of Chapman.

SWR
Austin Martin
Gunnar Hoglund
Kevin Smith
Zach Logue
Kirby Snead

Love the Chapman deal. Gave up very little for a guy who's excellent defensively, cost controlled and has been a great bat. This could be Dosh 2.0. I've wanted the Jay's to grab him for years. I know they're still talking about Ramirez, but I'd focus on Marte.

Not that I dont agree with your point, but the cost was 3.5 years, Berrios' extension after the fact didnt factor into the trade value.

There's no way they swung J-Ram unless they believe this team is ready to win like, now.

No one cares about a depleted farm if you win a world series. Just ask the Cubs after 2016..

Difference between being the Cubs or the Dodgers though. 9 straight years of postseason ball and they missed the NLCS twice.

Lose Seager and potentially Kershaw and Jansen too? Who cares still the best lol.

Years ago, Votto would have cost the moon.

Now we're talking either taking Votto and his contract for peanuts or trading Grichuk plus some value for him

Also, Yanks are now talking Manea and Montas per MLBTR.

I completely understand what you are saying, but this is where we stand today.

It's more about how they have effectively used their prospect capital to make big adds for players at 27 and 28 years old.

Which usually beats signing 31 year olds to 5+ year deals

I was a bit lukewarm on a Votto trade but considering how he basically stopped short of saying he wanted out and how the Reds are trading more valuable players for nothing...I might be more interested.

They gave up a legitimate all-star in Winker to unload a contract. You might be able to get Votto for literally nothing.

Throw them a bone. Grichuk and Spencer Horwitz
